should i go 30p or 24pA or just straight up 24?

its gonna be a powder day so think filmy thoughts...

any ideas?

i would definitely go 24, imo it always looks better, even in action sports.

if youre going to mix your footage with 60i, than shoot regular 24, but if its all gonna be 24p, go 24pA

30fps is better for slow motion. I've shot several athletic events in 30p and I was happy with the look.

It's a nice compromise; you still get a progressive scan look along with more frames for slow motion stuff.

Other thoughts:
Experiment with some high speed shutter.
Use OIS for handheld shots.
Get to know and trust your zebras as your eyes will be receiving a serious retinal workout going back and forth between sunglasses/no sunglasses/looking in your viewfinder.

I would say shoot a mix of 24pa and 30p. Just make sure you somehow tell the camera visually when you're changing framerates, like with a slate. I did this for a bike competition, and it works out well so that for your cutaways and "lifestyle" shots, you have the beautifal look of 24p, and then for your action stuff that may need to be slowed down, you have the 30p. 24p and 30p edit well together *IF* the 30p is slowed down to 80%. When slowed down, it actually becomes 24fps, giving you the nice slight slomo, and making it the same playback framerate as your 24p. Just make sure and have a slate, or a piece of paper, or even stick your hand in the frame for the 30fps stuff, you'll thank yourself in post. Just try and use your judgement and shoot things with the 30p that you know you'll have to slow down. I would set up 2 identical scene file settings, and put one at f1 and one at f2 so you can just quickly rotate the scene file settings and know which framerate you're shooting at. Granted, some of the settings dont translate between the two framerates, but you should be able to get mostly the same settings.
