Who have you met?

I’m curious to know who on these boards have met famous directors/writers/actors. Everyone says that these celebrities are a-holes, and I am interested to find out if they really are or not. So, list the people you have personally met, and list what kind of personality they had (condescending, laidback, kind, immature, etc.)

Tom Robbins - I get the impression there's madness brewing under his exterior.

Julianne Moore - Aside from being breathtakingly gorgeous in person she was very polite.

Martin Scorsese - He was a bit standoffish but in my eyes still a god.

lou farigno - very nice and funny.
Jackie Chan - Very quite and nice.
JayCee Chan (Jackies son) - soft spoken.
Edison Chen - Acts a little to cool but all around nice guy.
Christopher Martin - Two faced.
rick flair- Whooooooo!

sandra bernhardt - hahahahaha, shes so 10 years ago, but she was on this columbia film school grad.'s independent film, she defintly thought she was still hot **** which she is not.

the guy from cool runnings with the egg - hes the man. enough said.

William Peterson (CSI) - Cool guy... chatted with him about my editing philosophy for half an hour.

Gary Dourdan (CSI) - Really cool! Played on my brother's electric guitar, and jumped on the trampoline that is at our house.

I got an invite to the V for Vendetta premier and snuck up to the VIP room. I had dinner with the president of HBO and his family at the reception, met the president of Warner Brothers, the president of Silver Pictures, and saw Joel Silver, plus a lot of the other major business people in Hollywood. Surprisingly, they were all really nice people, but they commanded a lot of prescence. I got the impression I shouldn't argue with them but neither did I have to be deferential.

I met Natalie Portman, who was reasonably nice, and her friends, who were really cool, plus Hugo Weaving (great guy) and saw a bunch of other stars around (Petra Nemcovna, the Law and Order guy, Keanu Reeves, Alfred Molina, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Robert Downey Jr. etc. were all there plus many others.) The impression I got was that these were normal people (although invariably charasmatic and a bit too self-assured) who acted like normal people, except with better manners and much nicer clothes. They all treated me much better than your average person on the street, but I think the issue is that fans act so deferential and are so desperate to meet stars (or get their scripts to producers) that it makes for very awkward social interaction. The whole event was a little awkward, but everyone I met was really friendly and very cool.

I met Walter Murch a month or so ago and he was fantastic, too if a bit stuck up but in a good way. Jonathan Demme is one of the nicest people I've ever met, for sure. Just an amazing amazing individual. Joss Whedon is great, too, and my friends who met Scorsese (he visited my school but I lost my ID when he came) say he's also a nice guy.

I don't think "the stars" are that much different from anyone else, they just act weird since people treat them weird. That said, I wouldn't want to get in an argument with anyone I met. (Except Demme and Whedon were ridiculously down to earth.) I hate to be someone who's just praising the stars and saying they're so great (and dropping names; it's total luck and other people's kindness that's responsible or me meeting them) but everyone I met seemed pretty cool, and my friend who's worked with some of these people says that if you're a jerk in Hollywood, you have to be REALLY talented, or people won't hire you. (More true of actors/directors than of producers, who can be jerks.) But if you're really good, you can act however you want, I guess....

Tellin' you right now, Johnny Depp is the coolest, most genuine, nicest cat you'll ever meet. Think the public's impression of Colin Farrell is wrong...great guy. Russell Richardson (The Rookie, Tigerland): Funny, loyal, extremely nice and very talented.
Met some S.O.B.'s too, but what's the point?

I met George Romero.

Nice guy and answered all my questions.

Did you ask why he sucked as a filmmaker?

Pierce Brosnan (Super cool)
Robert Prosky (Nice)
Tom Skerrit (Intense)
Tom Atkins (Beyond Cool)
Michael Aston (Frontman for Gene Loves Jezebel) (Prententious)

A namedropping thread, how fun....some of my highlights, mostly while working.

-Mary Tyler Moore (very nice)
-Danny Glover (nice, made a bad joke about my name)
-Alec Baldwin (nice enough, but scared me a little)
-David Hyde Pierce (Frasier's bro, cool, took a picture with me in front of US Capitol)
-Danica McKellar....Winnie Cooper from Wonder Years (very sweet, my reporter made me blush by telling her I had a huge crush on her when I was a kid)
-Jamie Lee Curtis (nice, didn't get to check on that rumor:))
-Wendy Malick (Just Shoot Me, nice and funny)
-Steven Wright (Wings, very cool)
-Cynthia Nixon (Sex in the City, very nice)
-Howard Stern (does he count? I've heard he was an ass, but he was nice the day I met him)
-Flavor Flav! (Ha, he definitely doesn't count, but he was nice and VERY thankful for the coverage)

I'm forgetting a couple in there but for the most part everybody's been nice. Maybe they know they should be nice to the cameraguy that's giving them publicity, but I haven't seen too many divalike fits. I think a lot of people meet these famous folks ONCE and immediately make judgments about how they acted (no pun intended) that day. I'm sure plenty of them are a-holes, but the percentage is probably only slightly higher than the general population (perhaps money comes into play there).

I've met plenty, and they range across the whole spectrum, but one who stood out in a good way was James Earl Jones. When he came out of the makeup room on the first day, he made it a point to go around the set and personally introduce himself to everyone on the set -- "hello, I'm James -- and you are?" Every person. Craft services, production assistants, anyone and everyone. He shook their hands, he listened to what they had to say, he signed and autographed anything anyone brought to him, and was a consummate professional in every possible way. Solid gold.

So don't prejudge anyone. Everyone's an individual, whether they're a celebrity or not, and some of the biggest can be the nicest, and some complete unknowns can be intolerably rude.

I've had the strange circumstance to be around famous people a lot, and even have some very famous friends.

Dude, they are just people. regular people. The "famous" thing is not real.

The curiosity with celebs baffels me.

being an editor of trailers, tv spots and making of featurettes, i've worked in the bay with the following filmmakers, usually just for a day or two of notes...

Mel Gibson (Apocalypto)
Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill Vol 1)
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Sharkboy and Lava Girl)
Paul Thomas Anderson (Punch Drunk Love)
Bruce Willis (Whole Ten Yards)

and some lesser known directors like Andy Tennent (Hitch)

and I never met him face to face, but...
M. Night Shyamalan sent me an email thanking me for "capturing the E.T. magic" in a sizzle reel I cut for Lady in the Water out of behind the scenes footage.

and a long, long time ago I met Bruce Campbell at a private screening of something Sam Raimi was working on.

you're my new best friend... I can't wait for my friend to introduce me to Natalie... I actually like Keanu Reeves' acting (in certain roles. some he is okay in and others he's not...) Hugo Weaving seems pretty cool.

I've personally met Matt Damon, Steven Tyler, Barry Bonds (before the steroids), Vincent D'Onofrio (who was really cool) and a few others...

You met Matt Damon! Dude, that's awesome! I really would like to meet him, and Robert Rodriguez would be awesome! He's (Robert) the one person I would really love to work with one day.

yeah i met Damon... he was hammered beyond belief LOL

Hmmm, wow, this is a complete name dropping thread, but sort of fun.

I met Spielberg at a Jewish Community Event, gave a speech and really interesting guy. He refused to talk about his movies and rather wanted to talk about his Holocaust Survivor documentary work. He did a short Q & A afterwards, but no autographs and wouldn't talk about his films. Still, very humble and interesting guy.

Chubby Checker - Met him two years ago while I was out at dinner. He was very cool and we sent him a drink, he nodded and came over and shook our hands, but we didn't ask for autographs.

Rick Flair - I live in Charlotte and see this guy every single time I leave the house. He always has hot women around him.

Mark Sommers - The Double Dare guy. My cousin was one of the creators of the show so we would go check out the set and all that stuff (It was cool when I was a kid). Mark Sommers wouldn't shake my father's hand and just kept his hands in his pocket.

Carl Bernstein - I met him last night at a lecture I attended. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak it is very worth it. The last question he answered was, "Do you think that you are better looking that Dustin Hoffman" (who played him in All the President's Men) and he answered, "You're G.D. right I think so". He was brilliant.

I met Jennifer Anniston & Brad Pitt at my step-cousin's wedding, but just shook their hand and then they walked away.

I met PJ Harvey, she is awesome.

I've met a lot of athletes, but I guess that doesn't count for this thread.

Yeah... there's some others, but that sort of is my list.
