50 Greatest Actors Voted on by other Actors

They don't actually say which actors voted. Maybe it was just some extras (waiters) hanging out on the backlot some day. "Linda Casey, who will next be seen as "Extra #12" in an episode of "The New Advetures of Lassie", says "the fat guy who played the Godfather" is her favorite actor.

If you think my guys' list is classic film top heavy, you may not want to even look at my dolls' list.

When thinking of an all-time list I do not think in terms of "classic" vs "new" stars, I just let the chips fall where they may. Unfortunately many starlets of today are, by and large, not in any real danger of these chips falling anywhere near them.

The Callaghan Top 30 Movie Actresses Of All Time List
Actually, I agree with you about the actresses. There are a few today that are good but OMG they have a hard time standing up against the real stars of yesteryear, much more so than the men.

The only one on your list I just don't like is Meryl Streep. I will grant you, she is great and probably should be on the list, I just don't like her and find myself ignoring her movies now because of that.

Great List...

I do like Matt Damon and think he's a good actor... maybe not great... but good. Anyway, one guy who doesn't get enough props for acting is Tom Cruise. Homeboy can act. He just doesn't usually have the parts that let him shine.

I have NO IDEA how to respond to that... :Drogar-Sick(DBG):

Tom Cruise can act. He hasn't just gone on his looks alone. He's done some really good work (Rainman, Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maquire, Magnolia, etc.). Even the intense look he gives at the beginning of the new MI:3 trailer is great!

Unfortunately, Tom's an easy target. He's just someone people like to hate because it's "cool" not to like Tom Cruise. He's too mainstream and anything mainstream is not cool. But there's no real justification for people's dislike of Tom Cruise. They can't provide any hard evidence like, "Tom Cruise killed my puppy." They're just to afraid to admit that the guy has made "some" great flicks and done "some" good acting.

Any list the does not include Gary Oldman should be given no significance at all. He's even more versitile than Johnny Depp, if that's possible.

And what about Tim Robbins, Gene Hackman, Val Kilmer, Frank Azaria, Benicio Del Toro, Claire Danes? or even, John Travolta?

Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson? Dakota Fanning? What about Samuel L. Jackson?

And dont forget George Wendt.

Edit: Saw Hudson's list. Forgot about Collataral and Last Samurai, no question with those two. Cruise is good.

LOL PK ! (The Lassie quote)

And I also agree 100% on P.K.'s

Now BLAINE. I totally respect you but must PUNK you for thinking Cruise is not a talent. Cruise has mad skills. Tom Cruise can totally act !

Here is a list of films that either won Oscars for talent Cruise played directly opposite and also films nominated. Cruise himself has been nominated 3 times (2 times for Best Actor and 1 time for Best Supporting Actor)

These stats are not a fluke or the Academy being political. Tom Cruise will win an Oscar one day for Best Actor.

3 Best Oscar Wins have gone to talent playing directly opposite Cruise !

I totally dig Tom Cruise. One of favorite working actors; I can care less about his personal life

WAIT A MINUTE!!!! Are you trying to say that Newman AND Hoffman BOTH got their Oscars BECAUSE OF Cruise?!?

Cruise isn't a BAD actor, good perhaps but not what I'd call great. He's played some decent roles but I wouldn't place him in the Top 50 of all time. And a lot of his movies have be fun, a couple even great. But he had a lot of help in those, they didn't rise or fall solely because of him.

EDIT: In fact, using that logic one could just as easily say it was because of the caliber of the people opposite HIM that his level was raised...

Word Hudson! I am glad we have some Cruise respecters... Anyway, not sure about 50 all time best... but Tom is somewhere near there. I think his best performance (that I've seen) was in "A Few Good Men" He was excellent in that. Also, a lot of these classic actors, acted different than most people do today... it's a completely different style. You almost need two lists of 50 best...

Oh well, I guess my list holds no significance for you.

...Tim Robbins...
His performance in The Shawshank Redemption is far and away the best in his career...
but without Morgan Freeman's beautiful execution of the Red character in the same film...who knows what would have happened?

Hank Azaria? Moe Szyslak from The Simpsons? No offense intended, but are you serious? I am not saying that mine is the end-all actor list...but who would you bump off my list in favor of Chief Wiggum? Orson Welles? Sidney Poitier? Henry Fonda, perhaps?

 My mistake - now I see that you were going for satire...to show just how ridiculous the Channel 4 list was.

Those list are always bogus...we had one over here on top 100 music videos...Hudson would have puked!!
Don't forget Cruise in Legend!!! Before he had his pearly-whites done.

I disagree. For me that would be something of a cop-out. Whenever a list like this is made, the process shouldn't be easy at all. Sacrifices should have to be made, cuts should have to be made, rankings should have to be rearranged time and again. The blood sweat and tears put into a well put-together all-time list will shine through IMO.

Of All Time should be just that.

Edit: Cruise can act, and he damn near made my top 50 list, by the way. He was cut after Douglas Fairbanks, but before Gene Hackman, in fact.
