The sopranos season premiere

Great show that never seems to get old. Really enjoyed this episode, especially the ending. Can't wait until next Sunday... Sunday really is HBO (they can send my check to me in Charlotte, NC)

Fortunetly Canada shows the Soprano's in sync with the states, We don't get HBO but on occasion the Movie stations here pick up HBO series like this. I don't have time to watch it right now but I'm PVR in it for later..

I thought it was a strong opening for what I'm betting on to be another beauty-ful season.
I saw the ending coming a block away, but do not hold that against it overall.

Spoiler...

I was especially impressed with the "hanging" scene. That was shot in a way that will no doubt up the ante for all related scenes that will follow on cable and in films.

Edit...
Anyone else catch Big Love with Paxton?
If so, whatcha think?

I agree, it was the most believable hanging portrayal I have ever seen. Not that I've actually seen a real hanging.

I was also impressed by that last angle when Tony was reaching for the phone. It really brought you into the desperation of the moment.

I really wanted to like this, but I was just bored. It might be one of those shows that grows on you. I hope they pick it up a little next week.

I agree. HBO has been very hit or miss with me for the last couple of years. The Sopranos has always been a hit, but I fell out of favor with Six Feet Under around the third season (Nate's wife goes missing) and never got back into it until the last episode, which made me ball like a little girl. I never got into Carnivale or Deadwood (which I hear is great).

Big love seemed very slow and although I watched it, I got up, checked email, and played a game on my cell phone. It just didn't hold my interest that much.

SPOILER:
Back to the Sopranos though, I didn't see the whole Tony get shot thing. In fact, I kept thinking it was a dream sequence until you see Carmela get into the car.

This is one of the few shows that I not only continue to appreciate, but it keeps me interested from start until finish. For fictional characters I actually care about them, am curious about their lives, and most importantly miss them when I'm not watching them (maybe I'm pathetic). This is the only show I watch that I feel like I have to see. If I miss 24, big deal. If I miss survivor, well, at least some braincells didn't die that night. The Sopranos though, it's just, in my opinion, the best show on television.

Correction, Yankee...
Not only is it absolutely the best show currently on television, but I'd say the best tv drama of all time.

Edit:

I actually dug Big Love, and I am a Sopranos purist.
By that I mean that the other HBO series weren't/aren't worthy of the cannoli table scraps left over from The Sopranos IMO.
I despised Sex and the City and 6 Feet Under...I can't get in to Deadwood...and Carnivale I passed on.
The only other series on there that I really like is Extras (funny, funny ****) & Entourage is sometimes entertaining.

I think Paxton's show has potential, I really do.

Regarding Big Love (since this thread has become a bit of both), I really don't like Bill Paxton at all. I've never been a fan of his film work, his voice bothers me in general, and I just kinda find him annoying. I think that the show has potential because of the general premise, along the same lines that Six Feet Under had potential because of the premise.

In general it seems like HBO is really looking for things that are so far out of the norm that the subject matter alone gets people interested (family in a funeral home, star in hollywood, old west whore house capitalism, and now polygamy). I can't really complain because I'm a fan.

I know I'm going to get lit up for this, but I enjoyed Sex in the City and thought it was a well produced, finely acted, beautifully shot and written show. Deadwood, well, I just can't get into it right now.

I think that HBO really puts out the best shows on television though, and we'll have to see what really comes about from this season of the Sopranos, I really think that it is going to be a great season of excitement, drama, and twists (like last nights episode). I'm excited.

the hanging scene was deffinetly pretty crazy. I really liked this episode, and yeah, I really feel that this is a show that has to grow on you. Did anyone catch the "making the sopranos" featurette?

I think they were talking about the other show growing on you...not The Sopranos.
The Sopranos had me from the first frame I saw.

The featurette made for good cable watching as well.

I thought the build to the hanging scene didnt really work. I didnt feel as though he had no other choice. Maybe his wife should have put more pressure or something. Maybe the crew should have made his life a little harder on top of the shooting. It just didnt ring true to me. Just having the crew say no florida and the FBI saying no florida made it seem like he was just a big baby throwing a tantrum and hanging himself.

Otherwise it was pretty cool.
I met Jack Daniel Stanley at a bar in the city. Nice guy.
