Companies Offering Production Insurance

Can anyone give me the names or links to companies offering liability insurance for film production.

I got one quote and it was about $1,200 which seems a bit steep for a short film.

I was hoping I could find the names of some other insurance companies and get some more quotes.

Thanks,

Chris

im just going through this. I thought like you do that i needed insurance fora film. but it is more than that. what do you cover, who do you cover, dont bother with single day insurance. you can get annual for rougjly the same. Think about it, statistically the insurance company takes on the same risk no matter how many days so why woudl they want less money. I was quoted 687 for a single day of insurance general liability. I eventually bought general liability for annual for 280. now the other difference is that I am only covering my role as producer. I am expecting the light guy to have his own insurance etc. I am also not covering my equipment. So it really depends on what you really need. Tall to any local property casualty insurance company. tell them what you think you need or better yet get the entity that is requiring it to give you in writing what they need. then shop it to 2-3 places.

So Galt, what does that actually cover for Photographers/Videographers insurance? Personal injury etc.?

EDIT: Sorry, nevermind it's easy to find the info. Didn't think they would spell it out that clearly on their website! Thanks for the link.

Alas, after reading this I believe I do have some valid questions. If I were to get this insurance and then rent out my camera, would that mean that I would need to declare 2 photographer/videographers? If it was a different person everytime, would each of them count as an additional photographer or just one? Would there have to be a certain contract that the renter would have to sign in order to be covered?

Chris,

When I looked into this not long ago, I discovered that it is also important to make clear that is 'your work' you are creating, and that it is video (if it is).

Judging from the questions I was aked, it seemed like if I am shooting for someone else and I am responsible for handling and transporting the *exposed film* then there is additional coverage and expense.

Maybe one of the more experienced DPs on the list can chime in with more concrete info.

The RVNuccio pol;icy has a specific exemption and does not cover equipment that is rented to others. This is a liability and damages policy, subject to their exemptions. It also only covers paid work, so if you are not getting paid to shoot your Sundance entry, you probably need something different. Beyond that, read the thing again (or three or four times like I have), and call them direct with questions. I am not an insurance agent, and would rather get free legal advice than free insurance advice.

Thanks for that info. I won't hold you to it, I just like to have some info before I get an insurance agent who wants to sell a policy on the phone. Thanks again.
