yeap. pelican 1550 will do the job. i paid about $100 via evsonline. although i dont have my me-66 in my case, i will be cutting room for that later. but the case is great. you can carry it on as a carry on item on the plane. (southwest airlines)
I don't know what you're wanting to spend, but I bought this case for my dxv100b and I couldn't be happier. It's made for that camera, so the factory molded foam hugs the camera in all the right places. There are also plenty of cutouts for all your accessories. It's made by Thermodyne for Panasonic. I can't say anything negative about it.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=287320&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
I'm looking at the Pelican 1550 and the 1600. I'm thinking I might as well get the 1600 if it's several inches larger and only $20 extra (120 for the 1550 and 140 for the 1600).
How well does the pick & pluck foam work? I was checking it out at http://www.casesbypelican.com/foam.htm
Sounds like a party. I haven't used it before but it seems like a great idea and probably ends up saving money.
my 1550 can hold my dvx, extra battery, remote, filter kit, charger, AV cables, about 8 or 10 tapes, and my capture/playback camera (canon zr500) just fine... it might even be legit on a plane - haven't tried yet
pick and pluck is alright...can be a pain but it's alright if you take your time...cheap to get a replacement block too.....
On the subject of foam, I heard someone say on these boards that soaking the foam in water, freezing it, and then cutting it works really well, and then letting it dry really really good. This is if you don't get the pull n' pluck, which can come apart after a while
After putting in the camera, how much do you guys put into the pelican 1550? I am really leaning towards the 1550 bomb case. Anyone out there have a 1600 and think it is a better value? Is the 1600 too big for caryon? Lastly, are the pair of handcuffs to attach it to my wrist included or sold separately?
Thanks much,
Alex
+1 on the Pelican stuff, though we just recently bought the 1510 from EVShttp://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1510 Its great. Plenty of room, right now there is the camera, a shotgun mic, short XLR, 2 5600 batteries, charger and adapter, remote and room for a few tapes. The best part is that it fits in an over head compartment, has wheels and a collapsable handle.
I have an Optex hard case for my DVX. Ordinary case with the diced foam on the inside. It's a very snug fit. However, I've noticed that the one side of the camera kind of pokes through the bottom layer of foam - Could this case be too tight and potentially wreck my camera, or is this just my obsessive compulsive disorder kicking in again? Case cost me 100 bucks!
