Marshall R70P HDA Question

Okay, so you guys have convinced me to purchase the Marshall R70P HDA. It looks freaking awesome. Here's my question though. It looks like I'm going to have to buy an IDX V-mount battery with it. Will I be able to recharge the battery from the monitor or do I have to buy that other charger that costs, like $550? Cause that would kind of suck.

Or is there another option and I've missed it.

Thanks again for all the help. You geniuses have been amazing!

I don't know the answer to your question but if you have to buy IDX stuff take a look here (I have purchased from them with complete satisfaction). They have a fairly inexpensive charger that will work . . . you can also check out their combo deal for a charger & battery. Good Luck!

opps, forgot to post the link . . . http://batteries4broadcast.com/

oh sweet...does any v-mount battery work with the Marshall? Cause they have the IDX logo on the back of the v-mount on the actual monitor itself. Cause that sony style v-mount and single charger for $300 looks like a sweet deal.

Yep, V-Mount's a V-Mount (Sony actually). If you want to go with the larger capacity battery I'm pretty sure he'll work with you on that package. I e-mailed 'em with my needs and got a quote back the next day -- you will occasionally see his stuff on eBay as well (for basically the same money).

if your planning on using this monitor on camera, I would advise not mounting a battery to the back as the monitor is fairly heavy already. I ended up purchasing a NRG battery belt (about $280) and a XLR power cord. The setup works quite well and the belt will power the monitor for 10-12 hours.

the other option I am looking at is the Zacuto (www.zacuto.com) rails and battery plate mount with the monitor bracket and NOGA arm. It looks like a great setup.

I would look at the NiMh battery belts as they are a LOT lighter.

Other than that, the Zacuto option looks great. I'll be checking out their battery/monitor mount tomorrow at HD expo in LA. I'll let you know what I think.

FWIW

I'm probably going to buy the zacuto option (over $1,000.00) since I have a few projects coming up and I'll have access to a lot of V mount batteries.

If you're interested in the battery belt, I'd gladly sell it to you for a lot less than B&H. I've only used it for 2 days and it works fantastic. (it was bought new from EVS 2 weeks ago) it's also the belt that has a XLR and a Cigarette plug. ($380.00 new)

BTW, You're going to love that Marshall monitor!

actually I think I might go with the link I mentioned earlier. It only weighs a couple extra lbs which isn't too big of a deal to me as the wattage is a lot more (120wh opposed to 86wh). I really appreciate the help and the offer though!

the monitor draw is only 6-7 amps, so a 86wh belt will power the monitor for more than 10 hrs... 120wh even longer :)

Well may I suggest something a little different.
I have used the Sony L or M adaptors to power lcds and small transmitters (anything 12V that hass less than 18W consumption). Basically it allows you to mount a Sony infolithium battery and wire directly into the DC input. Of course it converts the 7.2V battery to a 12V output.

Hope that helps. If you have Sony batteries already...even better! They are small, cheap and reliable. Now I wish there was a Panasonic battery version :-)

Ok, my Marshall V-R70P-HDA arrived today. But how do I mount it on top of my HVX? I must need a special mounting plate . . . but which one?

I avoid mounting it on either the shoe or the thread on the camera. If you are handheld, it gets pretty heavy. I prefer to use a mini cardellini clamp with a 1/4 thread and a noga arm screwed in to that. This will give you some flexibility on angle and placement. Clamp the cardellini to the tripod legs or to your support rods if you have them.

I just ordered the zacuto rails and monitor bracket. Yesterday, I made a trip to the HD expo (LA) just to see it: and I must say it's the best monitor mount I've seen. Other solutions are so awkward or just unsafe/unsteady for the monitor. Plus it's versatile...you can use it on fullsize cameras as well.
