Lucas: Big pics are doomed

I hope your joking

There is a open contest for a TV ads for a fundation project and Open Source popular browser that can offer people in here a exposure chance plus chance to win $$$ at video/photo store and more, and the post get deleted without feedback ?

I mean, I really like this forum, but now I am questioning this... I really hope it a mistake

i think the firefox contest link may have been deleted because it was posted before.. i could be wrong though. would be good to know why DJ thinks the link to the contest is not fair to those that pay for ad space. im not sure that they are trying to sell you something... but give filmmakers a chance at winning something. that is not really the same. is it?

Nice article. I thought that was obvious, though? It took a big wig like him to state that?

Jarred: Ad posts are doomed.

As far as blockbuster films, (to paraphrase Twain) reports of their death are greatly exaggerated.

It may not make sense to spend $200 mill on a pic, but it may be no longer necessary (since compelling digital effects are becoming more affordable).

And I wonder if Lucas is adjusting for inflation? $15 mill in 2025 will be more like $7.5 mill in today's dollars.

I am curious to see what George does next. Rumor is he's going to be doing small films now. Things he really wants to do. Maybe he'll learn to direct actors.

We're always hearing about it being the end of this or that as far as movies are concerned. Blockbusters are doomed until the next GREAT blockbuster comes out. People will still flock to the theater if something great comes out. I think there's room for everyone out there, movie-wise.

I agree with Blaine. It's pretty convenient for Lucas to say that after he's finished Ep. III and has had time for all that to die down. I think it would be sad if big blockbusters were phased out. Everything goes in cycles. In old hollywood you had productions like Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, and then you get periods of film where the budget is much lower. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand these trends.

Also, the Academy isn't the be all end all source for what is quality and what is not. Yo it's hard out there for a pimp yo!

"BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Leave it to "Star Wars" creator George Lucas to pronounce the death of the Hollywood blockbuster."

How about this: Leave it to "Star Wars" creator George Lucas to kill Hollywood blockbusters, then pronounce them dead.

I'm hoping when Lucas speaks of $15 million dollar films being the mainstream he's not thinking of every movie being made on a green screen set like the SW Prequels. There's other ways to bring down costs.

Not to mention that lots of VFX doesn't make a film less expensive by any means. Technology gets better and better, but movies get more and more expensive.
