Best Sports Movies

I work with two movie buffs who are always walking through the office with questions like, "What is the best sword fighter movie" and when you answer 'Hero' they yell "Wrong! It's Conan the Barbarian".

Flash forward to today and they actually had a really great question, "What are the best sports movies of all time". Here were my selections:

Baseball - Field of Dreams
Hockey - Miracle
Football - Friday Night Lights
Basketball - Hoosiers
Extreme Sports - Point Break (bad movie, great shots)
Boxing - Rocky II
Karate - Bloodsport (with Best of the Best being a close second)
Volleyball - Side Out
Bobsledding - Cool Runnings
Skiing - Aspen Extreme
Bowling - The Big Lobowski
Golf - The Legend of Bagger Vance
Track & Field - Prefontaine
Soccer - Bend it like Beckham
Curling - Men with Brooms
Tennis - Strangers on a Train (I gotta get a Hitchcock film in there somehow)
Cards - Rounders

OK, those are my picks... Whatcha think...

Snowboarding: First Descent
Skateboarding: Search for Animal Chin
Surfing: Endless Summer

and shouldn't volleyball be Top Gun?
 
Those were just my picks, but great call on Chariots of Fire, that completely slipped my mind and its a great film on so many fronts.
 
Any Given Sunday.. greatest football movie ever.

Oh, and who can forget, Blue Chips.

I like He Got Game, also.

Yankee, I'm surprised. Field of Dreams was okay but I think Costner was better in Bull Durham. And Eight Men Out was my best baseball movie. And YOU A YANKEE FAN not picking *61...sacrilege.

My favorite Basketball movies were Coach Carter and Glory Road. Honorable mention: Finding Forrester.

Horse had it right with Slap Shot...one of the funniest sports movies of all time.
Caddyshack THE funniest sports movie of all time.

Pool...The Hustler. Honorable mention: Poolhall Junkies.

Boxing...Ali (Yeah I said it, Will Smith :shocked:)

I agree with Friday Night Lights but also liked Brian's Song (the original, of course)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot High Roller: the Stu Unger Story (Poker) and The Cincinnati Kid (Steve McQueen).

Cycling: Mt favorite cycling flick was Breaking Away. I almost forgot about that one it was so long ago.
