IS it really that big an issue?

Is it really that big of an issue that the 35 adapters invert the image while recording? Is this not something one can get used to and shoot around or is it pretty well necessary to have it right side up while shooting?

There is no invert. :)

go try and cut your own hair in the mirror

it's a big issue because say you have too much head room above your actor, Ok, your eye will tell you to move the camera up because the actor is upside down ... D'OH! Ok now your brain tells you went the wrong way, but D'oh the actor has moved just a little ... and that's just for a stagnant shot, now if the subject is moving ... forget about any sort of consistent or good framing

But its no bug deal ... you just tape a little magnet to the side of your LCD and it flips the image right side up ... problem solved.

magnet solves the problem easily....

However, working without the mirror trick is impossible for handheld work and even extremly difficult (for me at least) on stix.

I've cut my own hair in the mirror since high-school. You get pretty good at it. I can even look in a mirror reflection of the mirror to get the back... LEFT HANDED.

Just takes years and lots of bad haircuts. :)

try it.

I've heard 1 person who's used one say it was no big deal.

EVERYONE else including myself wants to rip their own face off.

But its kind of a pointless thread (sorry). Because if you think its no big deal ... fine.

If you think its a big deal then put a little magnet on the lcd -- solved

And you can even buy one that flips the image if you are willing to take an additional two stops of light loss.

i'll let you know when cinemek finally releases their G35.
i'm sure it's annoying as hell at first.
i'm just saying practice makes perfect!

having used it, I can say the magnet trick WORKS but doesnt solve the problem 100%.

the magnet does flip the image but what you ACTUALLY need is to roll the image 180

when I flipped using the magnet it was still a bit screwy, I think left was right or something....your best bet is to use a field monitor upside down, thats what Im going to do.

I used to do a lot of still photography with a 4x5 view camera and that was annoying enough but to try and shoot motion upside down......forget it! I'm just finishing up my 35mm adapter and I will be attaching a mirror to the lcd, but most likely I will move up to a monitor. You just can't compose properly without seeing the image as it is.

So YES, it is a big deal.

Adam,

The left to right is fixed in the menu. Go to display set-up and change the "self-shoot" option. The "mirror" function needs to be off.

exactamundo, just like a field monitor

wait ... it needs to be on actually doesn't it?

whichever ... toggle it and it will fix the problem 100%.

and then it's exactly right.
