Gladiator Extended Edition

This would best had been posted in that thread about great BTS DVDs, but I couldn't find it...

Anyway, I got this DVD a couple of days ago among some others (Constantine, Cinderella Man, Pride&Prejudice, Batman Begins and some more... haven't bought anything for like 3 months). I wasn't initially interested in this extended version as I already had the 2-disc one. But I was sold on it the moment I saw the packaging - totally different from the US edition and I'm a sucker for big pretty boxes with lots of discs :)

And wow, this edition might be worth its price for the new documentary alone. Just finished watching it - 3 hours 15 minutes without credits. Whole story of making the movie from coming up with the script idea and writing it during actual production to location scouting, costumes creation production design, principal photography, vfx and even pre/post Awards thoughts. They talked about the 3 big battles, about 20-40 minutes each, with LOTS of BTS video. Very fun watching 20 actors fighting each other on the arena as they're being shot at with sand/blood cannons, cheered by 5'000 extras and all the while photographed by 4-5 cameras... And even though I'm not a fan of sit-down "Making of" interviews, these were actually interesting as they went through the whole production process with this fresh new look (documentary is dated May 2005), reflecting on their 6 years' old work, and you can see them all being very passionate about jumping into something basically unknown and impossibly hard.
Of course it helps that I love Gladiator and admire Ridley Scott, but who doesn't? :cheesy:

So, what's the point of this thread? To let those of you wondering if the Extended Edition is worth it know that it indeed is. Forget your single/dual disc versions and get this one, you won't be disappointed.
There, I'm off to watch the 3rd disc...

You can get it here.
Seems like it's been out for a while in US (released August 23), but it just came out here like a month ago...

Aww I'm a sucker for Ridley Scott - and gladiator especially - what a beautiful film.

Is this only a purchasable item - I'd really rather spend a little bit renting it for a weekend at blockbuster.

Ive got a signed Gladiator DVD cover...Ridley Scott signed it.

but that DVD series you got xl70e3 looks sweeeeeet as helll!

I'm going to have to go pick this up. Loved Gladiator.

have you watched Constantine yet? I really love that movie. Other than changing the character from British to American it was great. Keanu Reeves did a good job in the film IMO. Let me know what you think of Constantine

I watched it in theater about an year ago, ravinesedge, and I liked it. Really beautifully shot film, fresh, original and fun, and Keanu seemed to be perferctly in place for me. I picked up the 2-disc set, because there is the documentary about Rich Lee's previz work on it.

EDIT: Oh, and mine is PAL, Region 5, but if you go to that Amazon link I posted you can see that NTSC version is packaged almost the same way, it just has completely different artwork.

The extended version scenes were in the first DVD set, but as "deleted" scenes. They ran them through post production and inserted them back into the movie with sound and music adjusted for the changes, I believe.

FYI for those thinking of picking it up. It's worth it, I think.
