Quick Truss Setup

I was thinking of taking a piece of 1.5" threaded galvanized pipe (cut into to 2 five foot sections with a coupling) and rigging it to a a couple C-Stands I have for a quick and easy lighting truss to mount some pars, fresnel, etc. to as/when needed. Does anyone have any thoughts on this setup?
 
Well in one particular scenario I have coming up it will require several fill/key lights more than i have stands for actually. Plus the pars and fresnels I have are equipped with c-clamps already.

EDIT: I am also curious as to what everyone uses to store and transport their pars and fresnels to keep them from getting damaged. Thanks!
