OTHER: What's your opinion on Kinefinity?

I have not seen much people here discuss Kinefinity. I'm very interested in their Mavo S35 Mark II, but only if it has 12 stops of dynamic range. I've seen Gerald Undone do a review on them. Have you all had experience with the camera? Their cameras look perfect for guerilla filmmaking on a small budget.

I’ve seen different people post about them online and also worked with someone locally in my market who owned one personally. He owned a Kinefinity Mavo LF.

Great camera, nice image that stood up to everything else in that price range. If you’re an owner/op who edits your own stuff and can shoot with whatever you want then it’s as good as anything.

If you’re getting paid by someone else to shoot a certain brand or camera then it may not be for you.

In 2015, I bought a KineMINI 4K (long discontinued).

I was coming from the first Blackmagic URSA 4K (the big one), which was the love of my life - but I needed something different (the max ISO 400 was too limiting more so than not, and the weight was getting to me for the type of filming I was doing at the time).

But the IQ was the best in the world for the price, at the time. Nothing came even close.

So...comes in the KineMINI straight from China (at the time you couldn't get one in the USA). Took a month or so for them to build it.

Beautiful build, nice modules, similar license unlocks/upgrades like ARRI, had KineRAW which needed to be transcoded with proprietary software (painfully slow but eventually removed from their USA exports because of RED)...overall a great-looking camera.

But when I tell you I was visibly upset at most of the picture quality, I was visibly upset at most of the picture quality. ha

Perhaps passable at 24fps with the best menu options - but, man, it was not a Blackmagic.

Since then I've only seen the company make better and better cameras.

Definitely a fan, but the overall competition is nuts - and these are camera for people who have a very solid and flexible freelance game.
