I tend not to follow the high-end camera market too closely, but it seems to me that all these models top out at 12-13 actual stops of DR when measured "objectively"—except the ARRI cameras, which routinely hit 14 or more stops. I know these tests aren't everything, but I have a sense that 11-13 true stops is what I've been seeing for a few years now in everything from prosumer mirrorless cameras (the S1H had impressive numbers, if I recall correctly) up through mid-tier cameras like the FX6/9 and C300s to the VENICE and BURANO. With some trickery it looks like a few can hit 14 stops, but it's rarely as cut-and-dry as it is with the ARRIs.
That said, I also seem to recall my little Blackmagic Pocket (the OG version, which is like a decade old now) had around 13 stops—or so it was claimed. I'm not sure I ever saw an effort to objectively confirm that number.
Seems we're butting up against the limits of physics at this point, no? In any case, the URSA 17K is not for me but I'm always happy to see more innovation and options.
