This is one of the weirdest gags I have ever seen ...

I tried it several times with various different numbers (resulting in a different symbol) and it still worked.

If someone could explain how this works, it would save me a trip to church ...

No matter what number you pick, you'll end up with a multiple of 9 (9, 18, 27, 36, etc.) All those numbers have the same symbol next to them.

- there are only a certain set of numbers your answer could ever be. Each time you play the game all those numbers have the same symbol. But, since you are concentrating on your number you don't notice that there are numerous other numbers that have the same symbol. Each time you play, the symbol is changed, but the certain numbers that will always be answers have the same symbol.

Ahhhhh ... it was the regeneration of the symbols each time that fooled me.
