FX6: The Sony ILME-FX6V Owners Club

Talking about cards. What is the latest drum on the most popular CFExpress A cards people are using in their FX6 cams these days? Anyone using these PERGEAR 260GB ones I'm hearing about? Feedback? Reliability is my main interest.

I have 2 of these and so far so good.

Oh, I almost forgot. I do have a Prograde 160GB CFexpress that lives in my A1 because that camera cannot record 120 fps 4K on SDXC cards.
It has performed perfectly for two years and I have no complaints.
Thanks for that, Doug. Good to hear on both fronts, the FX6 and AI. Though since I posted I've come across this Newsshooter article where they gave the Pergear cards a reasonable rundown. Price wise, they shape up as decent value. Might grab one and give it a go. I notice BH are now listing that Prograde as discontinued.

Interesting.
Personally, I don't ever need large-capacity storage and I place a very high value on reliability, so I'm not going to bite. When you combine the cost of this device plus another couple hundred for the SSDs to go inside, I think most people would be better served just buying a few more SDXC cards and keeping things safe and simple.

We'll expect a full report if you give it a try. :)

No, not game here. Will stick with cards! Was curious to other's :) musings.

Just as a follow-up to my earlier post about using TOUGH V90 cards rather than the more expsensive CFexpress cards. I just spent a couple of hours today shooting a bald eagle in 4K XAVC-I @ 120 fps on a relatively slower TOUGH V60 card. No issues at all, and I think the longest clip was about 45 seconds in real time.

Stumbled across this. Thoughts anyone?

I got this https://www.newsshooter.com/2021/01/23/zitay-cfexpress-type-a-to-ssd-adapter/ CFExpress to NVME adapter and did use it for a bit on the FX6 waaay back before CFExpress Type A cards came down in price.

Couple of thoughts:
- CFExpress is really just another PCIE device so such adapters are pretty simple and reliable.
- you have to leave the door open and mount the unit somewhere on your camera
- the FX6 will advise it is not a supported "card" but it works fine with all frame and data rates.
- you can use your own (and large) SSD's, but as I found out - you are limited by the FX6 only allowing up to 600 clips on one "card" anyway.

One thing I was hoping to use the NVME adapter for was so I could plug it into Slot B and "backup" or "offload" the days footage without the need for a PC. There is no inbuilt feature I can see in the FX6 for this. I did try plugging my Android phone over USB into the FX6 at the same time and using's it's File Explorer to do this but it was not very reliable.

I've now got a couple of 1TB CFExpress Type A cards but should have just got twice as many 512GB ones due to the 600 clip limit. I hit the clip limit well before filling the cards. The adapter now sits in the draw unused.

Interesting, interesting. I was just curious. I'm just using cards, which is fine. Just purchased a couple of these "Pergear" cards. From what I here is that they are okay... but I'm just about to find out aren't I. :D (y)

I've used various V60 / V90 SD Cards in the early days as well and never had issues.... but CFExpress Type A cards really are the go. They are so much quicker on the off load and "just work". FWIW, mine are the first gen Anglebird ones. No probs with them or the ProGrade TypeA / SD Card reader either.

Well, I've had a couple of Pergear CFExpress 260GB type A cards for a couple of days now and so far they have handled every codec and frame rate I tested them with, including 4K 120 and they didn't bat an eyelid. Fingers crossed!

On another point, when doing live crosses with the FX6, the production requires an SDI 1080i output. But the studio also wants a simultaneous 1080p SDI for ISO recording for other reasons. Here is a solution that works quite seamlessly. Set the HDMI out to 1080i and the SDI to 1080p. Then run the HDMI 1080i output through one of BM's HDMI to SDI 12G mini converters, and it all works like a dream. The converter requires USB-C power. See attached.

I run this same setup and it works great. I have a little dtap to usb c cable for the BM and I can run sdi to my gratical from the body and 2 more sdi outs for production.

I knew somebody else would be across it. Works well! I'll also check out those Angelbird ones. (y)
