SpeedEDIT

Just to start, I'm a fan of Newtek products... been to some degree since Video Toaster was on the Amiga. I don't use VT anymore, but I do use Lightwave for 3D modeling. So.... I was looking, but couldn't find anything other than a passing comment about SpeedEDIT.

Anyone do a hands on with it? I like the streamlined interface, and Newtek has been a player in video software for a long time. I haven't needed a video switcher like VT for a long time, but a NLE with support for all frame-rates, resolution independence, and apparently support for DVCPro HD, it sounds interesting. Someone who got a chance to goto NAB and saw this product please give me a heads up, tell me something. Thanks in advance....

SpeedEdit will be a standalone version of Newtek's VT 4.6 edit software. The VT includes Lightwave, Aura (a good animations program), and a switcher (up to 24 inputs with a Bob). I've been an Avid editor for years and find VT's Edit software to be faster because of the background rendering, and no import conversion.

Hi DC,
I actually had 3 Amiga's right up until Newtek's Aura came out. I had a Video Toaster, VLab Motion (the precurser to Casablanca), Imagine (my first 3d program), and Image FX. I would love to see Amiga make a comeback.

From what I read SpeedEDIT is a new incarnation of VTEdit that will be replacing VTEdit in VT[5]. VTEdit does not seem to be able to edit HD or 16:9, SpeedEDIT can, so this looks like a major rework. So again my question is has anyone had a hands on with the new product?. It seems like with the ability to work in any resolution, and frame-rate, and with multiple formats, and background rendering for $500 this should be getting more buzz. What's the catch?

I don't think there's any catch, besides that any hd footage will need to be brought in through firewire or 3rd party i/o. It doesn't include i/o hardware. SpeedEdit isn't out yet, but I sat with the Newtek demo guys. It's a great program and will allow for a simple hidef workflow. You can preorder it at sharbor.com and a number of other online dealers.

Yeah, those Amigas sure were something. I'm hoping the powers that be actually revive it some way, somehow. Time will tell.

On a side note, I have an AmigaONE (latest PowerPC Amiga) with a beta version of AmigaOS 4 on it. I also have a towered Amiga1200 (decked out) for sale. I haven't turned it on for about 3 years or so. I assume it would work if configured properly. But i'm selling it 'as-is.' If anyone is interested, especially in the LA area, just let me know.
