Price changing it's true?

Hi i have read in a french forum that the price for the RED for whose who haven't reserve it, will increase dramaticly : is it true?

Because there is a lot of people (me include) that haven't got the money at that time for reservation.
It surprise me because Jim says he want to make a cam for independant film maker, so buy a RED btw 20,000 and 25,000 ouch!!.

I have read that you will maybe re-opened the reservation is it true?

I think there is a lot of people who believes in you that didn't make reservations just because of finacial issue.

What the plan?
 
Maybe jim or greame can give us an idea of what we can expect because if it true i have to reconsider all my plan (unfortunately)
The silicon imaging will be more in my budget (less performance but no other choice) :(

even if it did increase to 20-25 geez, it still kicks the 22,000$ SI2k's ass.
how would a thousand dollars or 2 make the difference between red or SI... and if your talking about the SI-mini which is what 14,000? yah thats a cheap price but look at what your getting.. a small box! and then on top of that you have to use a computer to shoot. definatly no room for ENG or documentary style shooting.

hahaha exactly!!!!
small biz loan... thats what i did:) im selling my new lexus and buying a beater ford ranger or explorer:) and ill pretty much never have a social life (all my money will go to red.. oh and since im a camera nerd like all of us ill most likely be playing with the camera all the time).

apparently the last of the "R"s went out.. so hopefully mine will come before christmas!!!!
 
The RED ONE body only will remain at $17,500 after we ship to the reservation holders, at least through 2007. Reservation holders will receive special accessory consideration with their shipment... what exactly that all means hasn't been fully determined. Anything else is just speculation.

Thanks for clearing that up, Jim. :thumbup: I was a little worried, having just applied for a loan to cover the camera & accessories.

I understand the concerns that people have on price. I would always rather pay less than more. But if this camera delivers like it appears to be doing it's worth 3 times it's current price point. Even an on paper comparision of other cameras out there will show you that. This was never meant to replace your HVX200. Look how much a Varicam costs, and that won't even touch this system.

How about the new P2 camera: 25,000.00 / smaller chip(s) / limited recording media / lower resolution / Broadacast not PL mounts /

Not that I want a price increase, just tring to put a little perspective on it.

I think your comparison is a little off. This is a revolutionary camera - and part of that revolution is the price - that's probably the number one reason everyone is so jazzed about it. I think a better comparison would be to look at how the Mac revolutionized the print industry or how desktops replaced super spendy optical printers in the effects world.

While not everyone will be up to the capabilities this camera offers, those that are (who can't really afford to be bankrolling these fat cats) will be able to fly with this puppy!

You wouldn't want to hide in my bushes since I live in the desert and you'd be likely to get a cactus in your...never mind. Just knock on the door and I'll let you use it, if you can teach me how to turn the damned thing on. :)

As for price, lower is always good. Even at the 17.5k price it's going to take a chunk out of my wallet and if the quality is 80% near what is hopeful, it should. So many things have gone the way of Walmart. Everybody (including myself) want things for cheap, but then we complain about the quality. Anything in life that you really want should sting a little bit. C'mon we're all filmmakers, even at it's best it's a painful dream or reality.

I'll think about it......OK...no! :) Well, let me get it in my hands then we'll talk. In all seriousness I'm hopeful that I'll be able to let others use it while learning a thing or two in the process.
