Now, BACK from NAB2006--what was the ONE cool thing you liked (besides RED)?

I liked that the B+H show special catalog took another $500 off of my Sony DSR450 kit! So, take $15K, less the $500 B+H instant discount, less Sony's $3,000 cash rebate . . . $11,500 for a 2/3" 16:9 24P SD camera w/glass, bricks, charger and a bag!

Also liked that the new JVC HD200/250 cameras will incorporate a viewfinder "flip" for all you 35mm adapter fans!

I really liked the new stuff from Avid, the Media Composer, software based system. I also loved seeing and touching the HVX. I now know what my next camera will be. Red was amazing as well, especially speaking with the people there at the booth and hearing all the incredible info! I also really liked seeing some of the cool workshops at the Panny booth. And I LOVED the DVXuser party!!! Fun times, fun times!

You mean, other than the hooker??? ;)

It was all pretty cool. I'm excited about the HDX900 and the upcoming successor to the Sony F950.

Oh, and the Euphonix System 5 post audio console gadget thingamabob was pretty cool (and relatively inexpensive). FilmLight had some cool DI ****, loved their control surface. SpeedEDIT looked nice; res independent, real-time NLE on your laptop for $495 - kinda groovy. There was a ton of great products, I'm just too lazy to type.

The coolest thing I saw was something called Ultra-High Definition. The camera records at 7030x6000 something, 32 megapixel 25 gigabit per sec through 16 HD-SDI conncectors. Ohh man they had this big theater with footage and 22.2(23 speakers)surround. HOLY ****!!!!!!!!! Now thats what is real High Definition. You can see insane detail on anything in the frame at any distance. It was like you were actually there if anyone is still at NAB check it out its at the send of the C Hall.

Agree on FilmLight, some cool stuff in there. Also had a private session with the discreet (autodesk) guys on the latest Flame upgrade, and it's pretty sweet. Its new 3D tracker is like butta!

Ha! That's nothin'. I just told my producer I would never shot a movie again if he can't provide me a cam with 16000x9000 pixel 96bit resolution and I *DEMAND* at least 200GB of data per second, oh, wtf, lets make that 300GB/s. And it has to have two detachable 18K HMIs stick on it. And a zero-G hovering device. And a pancake machine. And a cat litter pan.

Okay, I could waive the litter pan.

Making a movie with only 4K of res is an insult, you losers!

My favorite (even over the RED) was the Arricam 416. It was definitely the sexiest thing I saw while I was in Vegas.

The sexiest thing I saw was the 110+ story drop at midnight while I spun face down at 3 G's, 64' off the side of The Stratosphere.

Also, I'm really digging Zylight. Their LED technology is superior. The Z50 is a great start but once those suckas get BIGGER . . . look out! I did a video interview with Charlie Collias and will be posting up the clip soon, along with multiple others. For now, go check out their website!

Other than the Panny HDX 900 camera, I thought the anton bauer Elipz batery system was very cool. A lite weight camera battery that clips in under the camera and can run 8 hours without a charge. The charger and one battery will retail for a bout $300. Very cool.

I loved playing with the hvx200 and the panny ladie there was super super nice. That was pretty cool. Now I have a good idea of the picture quaity the hvx produces. The jvc booth was not nearly as cool because they had fewer cameras and they locked all the menus so you couldn't even really play with the them.

I can't really think of my favorite product since most were way out of my price range but I guess I would have to say that bella ipod video recorder. I will probably buy that along with the hvx.

Even though the red booth was boring, it was fun seeing all the people in awww and asking if it really did 4k. The people would just keep asking questions and it would eventually come down to "there is a billionair video fanatic behind this"

Lots of people talked about that Anton-Bauer battery. Didn't get to see it but apparently it also includes a power tap for a video light.

Yeah, for those who don't know, Barry was literally tethered to the Panasonic booth.

(Okay, not literally, but it made the statement sound cooler.)

P + S Technik Mini Skater was pretty cool. Imagine a dolly sitting two inches off the ground with each wheel numerically callibrated so that you can do reliable straight and multi-radiused pans quickly and easily. Heck, their website does a much better job of explaining it.

Check this link for their video examples (Quicktime)

Yeah, the Ultra HD stuff was absolutely stunning. Crisper than reality.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time jerking off over stuff I can't really have or stuff that doesn't actually exist yet, but I was super impressed with the new mograph tools in Cinema4d, as well as the new ceramic fresnel lights, Rololights, and some German company which had the brilliant idea of mounting a Steadicam on a Segway for even smoother shots.

Matrox had a very nifty box for the Mac that allows you to color correct a monitor through DVI and also have HD-SDI and Component outs with realtime down conversion. Only $1K.

I wish they had more information available (edit: I see now plenty of information... still not entirely helping me out, though). I can't really see if that would be worth having instead of the Blackmagic Multibridge. It's a little bit cheaper but I'd be inclined to trust the quality of the Blackmagic more.
