No Horizon - Update 1/30/11
Friends and fellow filmmakers,
It's been nearly 2 months and 3 weeks since Mike and I started this thread and since then we've barely made an update. We thought we'd get the jumpstart before the holidays, but we have been bogged down with work, family obligations and bad weather. And now there's nothing like a real deadline to kickstart this back up.
Mike and I have become good friends over the past year through dvxuser by running our scripts and films by one another, and utilizing each other's feedback to elevate our work. Mike is nearly legend as a dvxfester in that he rolls out of bed, brushes his teeth and places tops in nearly every Fest as if it's programmed into his DNA. I have not yet placed top 3, but placed 7th in Westfest, 4th in Thrillfest and won Best Cinematography in All Hallows Fest back in 2007. I also placed 32nd in Betrayal Fest - Sweet!
He and I have both entered 8-9 Fests each, so this Fest I asked Mike if he'd like to collaborate. We would each make a separate 3 minute film about human resistance against an alien invasion, and we would combine them. We might not even have the stories connect, but instead leave them as different vignettes of the same battle.
Keep in mind our idea was to make something very special effect laden, we are creating a post apocalyptic world, so this isn't something we can throw together. Also Mike is in Ottawa Canada, I am in LA, so it's not like we can grab a beer together and collaborate.
As it stands now, Mike may not be able to get his half done... or he might! Who knows? Time will tell. My half of the short is so chock full of effects I may not be able to get mine done either, but I will have something to enter, just to be a part of the fest. Consider us underdogs at this point.
My shoot is tomorrow, Monday the 31st 2011. Screengrabs coming later in the week!
