Netflix is hacking me off!

The few movies we have received from them has had some seriously major scratches on the disks. It makes our movie nights almost unbearable. You'd think that Netflix would check each disk after so many rentals and fix the scratches or recycle them. This is really becoming annoying...
Still it's the best deal in town, tho!

GAHHH!
Thanks for the vent..

Man, I know what you mean. I almost cancelled my account with Netflix because I was sick of my movie nights being ruined by damaged DVDs. I had a string of of them for a straight week once. This is how VHS is still superior to DVDs. But I agree, Netflix is still the best deal around. Saw I, Robot the other night. I pulled it out of the enveloped and noticed it was savagely scratched; however, it played fine--no jumps or anything. So you never know.

Ever notice it's always at the climax?? Seriously.. never fails. Your not only invested time-wise but it leaves you emotionally devastated. Are you really going to send it back and reorder the same movie so you can see those missing 90 seconds? I've sent them a few scathing emails on this very subject. Strangely, for about a year after that they improved dramatically. One thing we can all do, and I implore you all to do this, is report this whenever it happens so they can remove that DVD from the pool. I can see how it would be economically unfeasible for them to view each DVD even once in 5 rentals, and the scratches aren't always apparent by looking at the media.

I've had very good luck. I did have one disc arrive broken in half, though -- I had it on the shelf for a few weeks before I went to watch it, so I figured for sure they'd accuse me of damaging it. But no, they sent me a replacement, no questions asked, and it arrived in two days.

Netflix isn't perfect, by any means, but it's been worth it all in all.

I just had one disk that would go about 3/4 way in and then stop playing, not scratched that bad either but it looks faded like its been siting in the sun or something.
They should be sending the replacement today...

I usually clean the disks when I receive them. Lens cleaner and a cotton cloth. They always have finger prints and gook all over them. The prelim cleaning helps plus I bought a DVD player that notes as a feature it will play scratched and damaged DVD's.

I had Children of Men on HD-DVD and right near the middle of it, it just wouldnt play after that part on the HD Side. Which sucked hard, because the second half was great, had to flip it to the DVD side, which was just as scratched, but played through, :(

Serously people, get yourself a cheap ass dvd player - they play everything. I worked at blockbuster for years and very, very rarely had a problem. The trouble with better players is the lasers better but the flipside is they'll also picks up scratches much easier too - that's a medical fact.

Must be a geography thing, cuz I know dozens of people, including myself, who have used NF for a couple years, and I've NEVER heard of anyone having problems. You guys on the coasts must have too much sand in your players or something?

yeah, I get about 4 disks a week and have only ever had two not work. And those the replaced the very next day, even before I sent the bad one back...
