Nanlux Evoke 900C 940W LED RGBACL Spotlight

Lol yes always a risk with these rapid product cycles. I'm a huge fan of Prolycht's all in one light though vs. the 900C with separate power supply. They'll surely be popular!

If one is booming a light and/or it doesnt have remote control having the power on the ground is a great thing is it not?

Assuming the header cable even makes it to the ground. Supposedly the Prolycht might get a cable/control panel for situations like high on a stand or boomed (obviously phone or whatever else where possible). You more than anyone knows there are pros and cons for either system but it's a nice change and feels like you're setting up a tungsten light. If the difference in weight means an actual change to a more involved boom set up then the decision can be made for you. Rigging a power supply up high can be annoying too.

Yep having to rig the power supply half way up the stand is a bad thing. A low power supply aids the sandbags and is easy to access.. Im assuming the header cable is long enough for the boom.

It looks like a very nice light that is nice but too costy for me and doesnt run on sidus link. Also would you want to give $$$ to a brand that may not have good customer support?

That’s one of the things with some of these brands. Yeah, you can get a lot of punch for the $/£/€, etc., but what happens when you need service or support? At what point do you cross over and out of the “throw it away and just buy a new one” price range? For example, my Aputure 600d Pro’s are about 1/4 the price of my legacy 800 HMI’s, but as an owner/op, I don’t consider a ~$2K light a “throw away” and I expect service and support, especially as they are pushing these lights “up-market”. They are no longer just going for the “indie” crowd, where you can just justify all of the compromises and lack of support by the super-cheap prices.

Thats right. I have my 4 lupos (3k at the time) and now my ap 600 $1.5k and both sit in that complex space of too costy to chuck- personally I hope aputure are getting it together to be 'a brand' that might have support - im picking apture over nanlux, for example.

Apture..
ip rating (drizzle)
phone ap
widely owned and rented
possible servicing maybe!

I also have $100 amazon panels that if they fail.. well who cares, lesson learned. And an arri fresel that just wont be failing just burning fingers and the planet.

I was actually surprised by Aputure last year. The yoke broke on my original 600d pro and I took it to my local Barbizon, which I did not purchase it from but are now Aputure dealers, for repair and was pleasantly surprised that the parts were still covered under warranty(it was over 1.5 years old at that point)(I guess they ran the serial number through Aputure) and I only had to pay for the labor.

We don't consider a light like the Nanlux 900c to be an either/or threat to our Orion 675 FS. There are plusses & minuses to both and I know a number of our clients will be picking these up to round out their kits. Yes they are higher wattage but they are also more expensive, especially when you factor in the fresnel which just about everyone wants on these lights. Back in the tungsten days I had inkies and tweenies and babies and seniors. No one light is appropriate for all work and we think our current products are real workhorses. Frankly I welcome the addition of more RGBACL lights as color-tunability is absolutely the way forward and this just helps propel the industry in the correct direction.

^ Notice his comment about having local support in the San Fran area from Nanlux. This makes me a bit more optimistic about the brand. I already own the 700B (Nanlite) and it has become a workhouse on all my recent shoots... so both this one and the Prolycht are certainly on my radar.
