LITE PANELS

Re: LITE PANELS

At two feet they're reasonably bright, 60 footcandles. But they drop off quickly -- less than 5 footcandles at eight feet.

Re: LITE PANELS

When it comes to power, softness and battery life think of them like the Kino miniflo car kit. So as a on camera light for night time close range shooting they are one of the very best. For daytime interior or exterior they lack the power. Strange because they only come in 56K. I made a tungsten one for less the 1/4 the cost. Pics, parts and info are on this board. I believe under "Hardware".

I dropped by the Lite Panels company today.   They are working on using camcorder batterys.  With thier NiCad batteries the panels are about the size and weight of a standard brick.

I would rather use the Kino Flo ring light.

I'd have to agree. I was working on the same designs as theirs two years ago and gave up as there simply wasn't enough flexibility with LEDs. Perhaps in a few years with organic LEDs but for right now there are much more efficient ways of making light.

Re: LITE PANELS

Well I dont know how it compares to a Mini Kino but I can tell you that the LED light panel I made uses 14watts but puts out the same power and soft light quality as a 100w tungsten with a mini chimera. At the same time its cool to the touch and uses extremely lite weight DVX camera batteries without the need for a ballast as well. The solution is out there and is very much available today.
