I used the 5d ll for the past several months and while king of the low light and resolution id was difficult to use as a video camera. I'm probably going to go with one of these cameras and was looking for any advice. I like features of all 3 and I dislike features on all 3. But features aside, which will give me overall a better quality video?

Thanks for any input.

Morpheus,

You better define what you mean by "better quality video", as everyone has a different idea on this. In order of importantce, how would you list the following features ?

- maximum resolution
- produces "film like" images
- low-light capability
- cost of media
- ease of workflow
- physical size / weight
- interchangeable optics

Perhaps I should rephrase the question. I've owned the 5D Mark ll and the EX1 and the HVX200. I know what they're capable of and have seen great videos from all of them. However, I've not seen the HPX and I realize the resolution isn't as high as the EX1 and 5D.

Having said that, I know that the imagers on the HPX offer some improvements to the HPX picture quality over the HVX. So my question is this. Does the overall picture quality of the HPX for HD put it closer in the field to the EX1 or 5D? Resolution aside, would I see better color on the HPX? Is the "less noise" on the enhanced imagers signifiicantly "less noise"?

The biggest problem I had with the HVX was the noise. I mean ...does less noise+better codec+slightly better low light = a camera that would make me buy it over an EX1 or HM100/700?

I own an HPX-170 and did own an EX-1. I got rid of the super sharp EX-1 because of the crappy codec and the rolling shutter. The HPX is obviously noiser than the Sony. It's only slightly better than the HVX-200. If noise is the main issue, spend 99 bucks on the neatvideo plug-in...it's worth every frickin penny.

I think the opinion will be skewed here, but I say HPX! Film in 1080, clean with neatvideo, then downrez to 720.

I personally just don't want to deal with CMOS troubles like wobbles, ripping, tearing, skewed subjects, etc.

I believe that the only two places where the HPX gets a lower grade is in noise and resolution....Personally I'll forgive the rez(CCD) for it's ability to be used in any situation, and as said, neatvideo/1080/downrez can fix all that....and lowlight is better when you use the neatvideo/1080/downrez workflow because you can use more gain.
