Google is sh.. 2024

As ever I dont quite know how to word my post.

I thought I would try out the new Aperture app as Sidus is not too intuitive.

But that doesnt matter.

If Im trying to find if a c200 actually needs 16v or get an intro to the aperture app or any other dark little corner of the film making world Im finding that the Google and Youtube search engines just drive me towards fun content and I acutuall can find what I need.

This adds additional value to a forum of humans, often fighting the same battles who can read and chip in.

Very specific, pinpoint information in all areas of life has to be found with some effort; it's not all immediately there on the outer layer, just not how good knowledge works.

Thorough research require a few clicks, maybe different wording to land in uncommon places which might have the answer you're looking for from a random Joe or Jane, not an official source or known person on one of the socials.

Like a quiet forum, or a rare question asked and answered on B&H, or a product review on Amazon, etc.

Click around a little...

Out of interest can you point me to..

Setting up Sidus One with old panels using DMX leads can be a great way to modernize your lighting setup. Here’s a quick guide on how to do it, along with an introduction to the Aperture Lighting app.

Setting Up Sidus One with Old Panels Using DMX Leads

  1. Check Compatibility:
    • Ensure your old panels support DMX control. Check the panel specifications for DMX in/out connections.
  2. Gather Equipment:
    • Sidus One controllers.
    • DMX cables (XLR cables typically used for DMX).
    • Your old panels.
  3. Connect DMX Leads:
    • Connect the DMX output from the Sidus One controller to the DMX input of the first panel.
    • If you have multiple panels, connect them in a daisy chain (output from the first panel to the input of the second, and so on).
  4. Power On:
    • Turn on the Sidus One controller and the old panels.
  5. Set DMX Addressing:
    • Assign DMX addresses to each panel as needed. Refer to the panel's manual for details on how to set DMX addresses.
  6. Test the Setup:
    • Use the Sidus One app to test control over the panels. Adjust brightness, color, and effects to ensure everything responds correctly.

Introduction to the Aperture Lighting App

The Aperture Lighting app is designed to enhance your lighting control experience. Here’s what you need to know:
  1. User-Friendly Interface:
    • The app offers a straightforward interface, making it easy to control multiple lights and panels.
  2. Remote Control:
    • Control your lights from your smartphone or tablet. Adjust settings without needing to be physically present at the light source.
  3. Scene Creation:
    • Create and save custom lighting scenes for different setups or moods, making it simple to switch between looks.
  4. DMX Compatibility:
    • The app allows for DMX control, enabling seamless integration with your Sidus One setup.
  5. Updates and Support:
    • Regular updates provide new features and improvements, ensuring that you have the latest tools for your lighting needs.
  6. Learning Resources:
    • The app often includes tutorials and guides to help you get the most out of your lighting setup.
With the combination of Sidus One and the Aperture Lighting app, you can create versatile and dynamic lighting setups, even with older equipment. Happy lighting!

I don't know about the first one with that context, but Sidus Link Pro has a database of info:

I'm usually a text/manual guy and then polish off the brain with random YT videos to see a visual approach/practice/execution of something, when necessary.

But I think you said it well once...forums were always a great place for specific questions people could help with...not just general answers, but detailed encounters, steps, etc. [But when they're active!]

The sidus link pro beta link seems useful. But I cannot read it. The chat gpts speils out what I could have speiled out.

I have not bought the unit.

I guess my better question is..

"has anyone bought a sidus one and got it working with older 5pin dmx panels and aperture fixtures together?"

there is a chance that someone on this forum is that person.. or should be as it seems to bring lots of value from legacy kit.

Segue, people underestimate ChatGPT or overestimate themselves, when the answer Chat gives back has been reduced to the person's level of understanding by poor phrasing of the question, a variation of GIGO. In human conversations, we often don't begin with the question that would most directly give us the answer, so we followup with more questions, drilling down to the essence. That's what you have to do with ChatGPT. The speed and accuracy of your answer is directly correlated to the directness and specificity of the answer sought. If you are simply looking for feedback from user experience, that's not an ideal question for ChatGPT although if you did, it would give you some idea.

Try something more involved, like challenging ChatGPT to a game of chess. Or if you can articulate properly the color and location of the squares on each side of a Rubix Cube, ChatGPT can not only tell you the order and direction of the moves to solve the puzzle, but can calculate and report back the least number of moves necessary. This is more than just a search engine , this is analytical, algorithm based intelligence. Okay, it's not human-biological, but in the ways of analytics it's faster and deeper. But when you ask a question that you already know the answer to, that's not proving your superior knowledge or Chat's lack of it.

now this info is completely in contrary to any marketing material.

It may be right or wrong.. and that is why I trust guidance from a human better.

Im not against Chat and it helps with my Python code and some Ibeam calculations.. but where it internet is confused Chat seems confused!

As it happens it seems that the 'bridge' may be the product I need not the 'One'

As it also happens Im actually interested in getting answers.. it is not theoretical for me.
