DMX for dummies

You have the Entec DMX blue box. I didn't know that worked on the Luminaire 4 software on an ipad? That entec box is pretty good remembering it's not RDM, so strictly one way communications.

To clarify some things.

-I have an entec black box.
-I wasted many hours trying to get my client friendly ipad to run it.

No luck. As ever the ipad is a groovy looking fail.

I went homebrew and ive set up a raspi and after 2 hours I see light while my software spend stands at £00
Lupo panels and Apertur 600D pro work with a 'generic' profile.

Now to package my raspi/lilliput monitor into a set ready box and also maybe learn some functions beyond .. dim this light.

Im trying this as a controller because I dont want a keyboard/moust clamped onto a combo!

I should be able to use python to somehow dim my group of lights

Luminair is a streaming DMX platform, meaning you need a gateway or other such interface between it and most light fixtures to get into standard DMX universe(s).

You can connect to Lumenradio CRMX devices from your Luminair device via Bluetooth. Range will be limited, of course. One universe (512 addresses) is supported this way. Looks like Luminair indicates Lumenradio's Moonlight device as one such device.

You would have to have one Moonlight at each fixture (OR) daisy-chain (up to 31 fixtures) from one Moonlight via 5-Pin / 3-Pin DMX extension cables to each fixture.

When I design permanent studio DMX infrastructure, or consult for major film sets, we will have optical splitters of one or more DMX universes, which then go out to inexpensive wall or pipe mount DMX outlets. From there, you can plug in up to 31 fixtures per optically-split outlet. We never recommend this many fixture on any one DMX outlet, as a failing card or driver in a fixture can cause a communication failure to subsequent fixtures. 3, 5, 7 or so is more typical per outlet.

For a more robust connection, you would have something like: Device running Luminair and WiFi > Wireless Access Point > Gateway / DMX Out(s) > DMX Fixtures.

This means nothing to me in any way :)

Words I dont understand..
Luminair, streaming platform gateway interface.

So tonigth I got some light..

raspi, open dmx softwar, entec box, 4 lupo light panels.

This rig can be lifted as high (if there was space in the building!) as on combo stands and still controlled which is a big deal on a small scale..

Ah, maybe I misread that you were attempting to use the Luminair app. Carry on!

I have been around the circle.

My ideal would be to use my ipad but is seems that..

blackout - costs $1000

Luminair needs another box as we as the Entec I bought.

And cost $100 per year.

My raspi works with the Entec, cost $50 and uses freeware and I made it work in 30 mins.

I may 'grow out' of that solution at some point. As ideally Id be running my aperture and other lights all off one box.

Sounds like you got there! What was the software you found for the DMX controller / DMX 512 output to the fixtures?

Well. Yes and no!

The freeware is Qlight controller. but I have not got it to do anything yet apart from dim the lights on sliders... which is very handy vs a step ladder!

Ideally Id control my aperture F21c, Ap600 and wired DMX fixtures from one device. Ideally my client happy ipad.
Ideally I would be able to program flashes or whatever.. like the chorus is red and the verse blue.. or press F8 and have an 'explosion'
Ideally Id also like to operatre me MoCo slider from the same device!

Oddly ive just seen the film I gaffered and we did a good job with the car lights and also a disco/rave. All ap21, Ap600, sidus and some waving of black boards!

Maybe I need a PeeCee!
