Complete 720p/25PN FCP Workflow Instructions

Hi everyone,

It's been a neverending saga for the folks downunder and those in Europe who are banging our heads against the wall with the lack of support for 720/25PN in Final Cut Pro.

Well I came across a document today that explains in very detailed yet simple terms how to get 25p footage from your HVX200E into Final Cut Pro. Seems no one told us when they sold us the camera that FCP only imported footage from your HVX200 if you lived in the US.

So for everyone in Asia/Pacific and Eurpoe who hasn't stumbled accross this document - it's the only thing that's going to give you any solace until Apple recognise anyone outside the US as part of the Global economy :) The only drawback is the US$199 additional software needed to make it happen - apart from that I'm a little relieved that albeit clunky, it is a working solution to get my projects out on time.

http://www.aulich-adamski.de/wp-content/720p25_50_HVX200_en.pdf

It takes a few minutes to load...

BARRY GREEN or anyone else who moderates this site - could you please "sticky" this for everyone in PAL land who has to search through threads for hours looking for an answer to this question?

Hope it helps - it's definately helped me.

25p!!!

25p!!!

Hi I'm in desperate need of help.

I'm about to shoot an indy feature In New Zealand on the HVX and want to shoot 720 25p (pal).

My editer is using an awesome PC but only has Avid pro HD.

Does anyone know editing program supports 720 25p or how to get Avid to import 25p?

Any help i'll be truely grateful.

Check out CineForm Aspect HD, they work with PP2.0, with Avid I´m not sure...
FCP does import and edit 720p25 from P2 now...

Help!!!

Help!!!

Hey all!

I'm shooting a feature and decided now to shoot 720 25p. Avid say their bringing out a new version that will support us PAL users in December.

I'm just wondering whats the best format I can shoot to get the best quality and best look.

Were using two HVX's, one with a firestore and the other with a P2 dump which has four P2 cards with it.

Should I be shooting Native, im not really sure what the difference is. HELP!!!

Appreciate any help from anyone.

I think 720p (not 720Pn) is a good compromise for you. It is slightly less compressed than 1080 which might be better quality though.

It will be easier to handle because the files are smaller (although still big).

720Pn might be good if you intend shooting "off speed" a lot and it is maybe a bit more efficient for file sizes but it brings in complications for Post as well as it does not output through the F/W port (eg to your Firestore)

Sorry i read quick the pdf file but it makes me scare and at the same time angry all i want to do is capture my movie from the special camera HVX.
But if this get so worse so difficult I will doubt about it to buy one of these wonderfull camera's.

Hey! Thanks to MacTrix and the german guys that did all of those testing and made it free to all of us Pal'ers!!
I did recently a job with P2 and FS100 shooting 720pN25/50 and no problems at all thanks to the clear PDF's: copied the P2 on a PBook then checked in FCP -> import P2 and if everything was fine ejected the P2 and formatted in the HVX. Did also the workflow from HVX through Firewire directly in our G5, no problem. But as long as we've the PBook, as in the speed test from those guys, I rather prefer copying to it, then later in the Studio backup them to our RAID 3 archive and import from there directly in FCP 5.1.2/3/4. Nice and smooth. No need to spend any more money to do it.
I like also the words in their site and Pdf introducing the HD Pal 720 capture preset missing in FCP or from Pana. I agree and already posted some complaining to Pana and Apple Discussions.
On wikipedia searching video standards I found this picture.... It says all... Pal users together Secam ones (that's not that different) are 75% of the world...

Thank you again and look forward for new docs!

Shooting 50p

Shooting 50p

thank you very much for that document that explains how to shoot high speed. I can now finally achieve the slo mo effect.

I have one question though.
I use the HVX202 with the FS100. When shooting DVC pro HD on 1080i25 I get 111 minutes. it's about 1 minute per gig.
Is it the same case when shooting 720p50? Are the individual clips bigger in size?

regards
Ken Minehan

What are the best render output settings for After Effects, when i made a videoclip with 1080i. Do i need to set it to Upper fields, and is the pixel tatio Square pixels. If you still have the problem, Right Click the lastclip.txt file and choose "Get Info". From there you can unlock it.

Time to UN-STICKY this thread?

Time to UN-STICKY this thread?

This info is now obsolete. FCP 6 (in Studio Pro 2) caters for the European and Asian HVX users and is an awesome advance on FCP 5.

Not only that, but the link to the cure for the problem no longer works.
