Compact Flash Alternatives

Okay so I am going to purchase a 7d in a about a week or so and I was wondering for video recording purposes, Is there an alternative to using a ton of cf cards? Physical size is irrelivant but I was thinking about a unit that essentially housed a hard drive and interfaced with the camera using a cable with usb 2.0 on one end and CF on the other. I was researching a CF to Sata or USB connector, and it seems the technology is available, but only working the other way. Basically allowing you to use a CF card as a harddrive not a CF card to carry the data to a hard drive. I searched and found a ton of stuff for stills but didnt know if it would work for video. any input greatly appreciated

Lots of video on one device = failed project at some point.

what do you mean by this. I am just talking about a cable to interface with a usb external hard drive. kind of like Wi-pics but for video and less features. usb is certainly fast enough.

the closest thing I could find was a sd card called www.eyefi.com but its only SD not CF and it interfaces via wifi so its not really practical I guess.

I think rallymatt was just pointing out the dangers of carrying all your eggs in one basket. Though with careful shooting and constant backups, I think looking into this is a valid discussion. Unless a hardware hack is created, I don't see such a workflow happening for the 7D anytime soon. Cams like the HVX and the HDV camcorders have specific interfaces that can stream the data out to an external storage device (Firestore for example), but the 7D has its limitations in connectivity.
