Capture Problem!!

Ok, so everything was going just fine until one day I was trying to capture some fresh footage, and as soon as I opened the capture window and turned on the cam, a message came up in the cap window saying "Could not start recorder. Try resetting camera."

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I have poked around some other sites and people say it's a problem with 3rd party audio codecs (of which I don't believe I have any). Does anyone know which ones specifically cause problems? Basically, any kind of help would be greatly appreciated at this point...

Re: Capture Problem!!

I forgot to mention: I can't capture in Vegas anymore either (I tried that after I discovered it didn't work in Premiere). As a last-ditch attempt, I even tried capturing in Windows Movie Maker, and THAT didn't even work, giving me a "Class Not Registered" error.

Re: Capture Problem!!

I'm sure you tried a reboot so -

Two questions then:

What have you installed or uninstalled lately?

Can you "see" your firewire card in control panel > hardware?

Re: Capture Problem!!

Uh... I'm not sure I've installed/uninstalled anything too recently (except Vegas... could that be what's causing the problem?)

And my F/W is all kosher, the camera shows up in My Computer, I can use it as an auxiliary webcam, all that good stuff. It just doesn't work with any video apps. I even tried using different cams.

Re: Capture Problem!!

Did it capture before in Vegas? It's possible the Vegas install has messed with some codec's. I have both installed and no prob so I would first try changing your capture device settings in Premiere. If this fails, try and uninstall Vegas if that's an option.

I am thinking it's a codec conflict - Other then that I'm stumped.

Re: Capture Problem!!

Yeah, I had thought of that, but I just wanted to see if there was another way :'( since I would rather have both. Maybe I'll try to do a Premiere re-install or something.

Re: Capture Problem!!

You can back up your projects and try to reinstall Premiere. Might work. Like I said, I have both and it works so give it a whirl. Be careful with your projects though.

Re: Capture Problem!!

Yeah. I've been thinking about trying to go cold turkey on Premiere and port over to Vegas completely, but I just like the way Premiere is set up better. To me, the Vegas GUI just isn't quite right...

Re: Capture Problem!!

I had the exact same problem 2 weeks ago. I finally figured out if had to do with a pack of codecs I had installed and forgot about. I uninstalled them and then reinstalled Premiere. It worked perfectly after that. I hope you're able to figure out what happened. I feel ofr ya buddy. good luck!
