Camera car mount

Hey there! I happen to have their gripper 3025, same cup as what you linked but with a different head on it. - http://www.filmtools.com/gripper-3025-suction-cup-camera-mount.html

I also happen to have an ex1! it holds the ex1 great, plenty sturdy enough, ive suctioned the thing to my ceiling then hung on it. thing is since the ex1 is a weighty beast, it has some leverage being extended off the cup that allows it to vibrate a tiny bit. If you're shooting normal stuff in normal cars it won't be a problem, I generally work with quick driving mounted to very stiffly set up (race)cars, and it still gets the job done, but if you're looking to do something like that on a really serious level look into some of their 3-cup systems. Overall though these work great with the ex1!

Here's something I shot for fun using the gripper 3025 and my ex1. because the cars suspension is more or less solid, that's where all the vibration you see is coming from - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mQH9RNqQsQ

edit: you're on the right track with the string idea, I've used this thing plenty of times and never had it lose suction or show any signs of doing so, but when its on the outside of the car (or gokart, or what have you) we have rope or occasionally a belt around the ex1's handle, pulled taught and attached to the vehicle. I'm sure I have more footage of using it in different applications if you're interested. Also, I highly suggest the 3025 over what you linked, as it provides much more adjustability without having the ex1's fat butt hitting the mount itself, as the 3025 has the cam positioned farther away from it. and its 100 bucks cheaper!

Thanks a bunch. My main interest is in using it from outside looking inside at the driver / passenger. That is why I am so worried about the camera falling off. Not as worried about the shaky part as the car will drive slow and on good Plano, TX roads or in parking lots. I did look at 3025 which is essentially the same as my link. I thought this will give me more leverage in setting camera angles, etc.. I would love to see any footage you have where the camera is outside the car.

no problem. Well with the 3025, the head thats on it allows me to position the cam in an way I find possible, and have it not hit anything. with the driving you're describing vibration won't be an issue whatsoever. Just make sure you wipe the surface down real quick, make sure its pretty flat, suction it on, and try to wiggle it and pull it off, to make sure that if the suction wasn't "complete", that it gets pulled off by you now instead of later with the cam on it. I've never had one lose pressure, even with very very rough driving. as for footage, don't think I specifically have anything looking back into the car, but theres a couple shots in here of it outside the car pointed forwards - http://www.vimeo.com/4525861 however they are buried somewhere deep in that 20 minute film. sorry! not sure of the exact times and vimeo doesn't let you seek forward before it loads. (oh yeah, there's a shot in there of it suctioned to a garage door as it opens, LOL) (oh and to a piece of sheet metal we heavily duct taped to a utility golf cart, watching this now is bringing back some memories)

edit #37356 - actually there is a shot of it pointing back at the car, starting at 11 minutes
