Anyone interested in an inexpensive Remote Focus?

I have built a working remote focus and wanted to see if there is any interest for a remote focus for less than $150? This will work with the DVX100 B and HVX200.

I am thinking of offering a group buy. If people are interested I will see about posting more info and picts.

I can also add remote Iris control too if anyone is interested in that as well.

I also make my Zoom Buddy remote zoom controller. You can see some feed back at http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=11187

My website is down but I plan to get a new site up.

Thanks Ben

Heya Bena,
Howz about rolling out a combo unit, with Zoom+Focus+Iris control
Oh and the zoom controlling howz about 3 user assignable zoom speed storage positions?
I know you've got more than your hands full with your DVC rack for OSX app your making (got a name yet?) , So i understand if you dont have time.

KEEP UP THE BRILLIANT WORK!

In my thought it might be easier to have 2 separate box's for this. I would want a dedicated person on the focus. So it would have to be a separate box. It would be easy enough to mount both box's to a tripod arm. I can't imagine one operator being able to Frame, Focus, Zoom and run iris at the same time.

I mean if someone wanted it all in one box I could make it.

Yes we have a name... but until the website is all in place.... he he.. you are free to guess. But there will be no RACK in the name if that helps.

I think the price could be a bit cheaper, just depends on the quality of the parts.

i haven't priced these out yet at all, but am very interested in a remote focus, and zoom controler. Anxious to see what it looks like and how it works-once your site is back up.

Hi Ben.

I sure as hell would be interested!! How involved would it be: replaceable marking discs? Adjustable index mark? Hard stops? Adjustable speed? I realize that for the price it can't do everything. But I have to ask, don't I? :)

Regards,
Dave

Let me see if I can get some picts up of the zoom controller. I am looking at several ways to do rack focusing. need to test some things, going to order some parts now.

Your link is not working..

But a remote IRIS/Focus would be great.. Focus should take up more space on the control.. then the iris on the side or something..

Just order a boat load of parts.. hope to build the uber controller as soon as I get the parts.

Still can't get this site

Make sure you get the better pots not the hobby stuff like Jameco sells. I made up two controllers, one with the hobby type and one with high quality pots from Digi-Key and the difference in repeatability and uniformity of movement was pretty substantial.

Very interested as well, any chance this will work with existing 15mm rods and follow focus? Is it gear driven, can I use it with my 35mm lenses?

Hi, sorry for not posting sooner. I got my parts. But I need to exchange a couple parts out, the connectors did not fit easily into the box. But I know what I need now.

I have wired up a unit and it is working great. Focusing is super sweet.

I am playing with finding the best layout right now and I will need to build a jig for drilling so I can get accurate results without having the cases spinning on the drill press... thats always fun.... NOT!

Does anyone know that they will need more than 6ft of cable length for the remote box? I guess if you use a crane you would need longer?

Scharky, right now I am making remote focus for the built in port. I have played with electro-mechanical to change focus, but I am in need of a machine shop to get something like that made and I am too busy getting my Mac Video software done. Might be something to revisit, but truthfully I think Red Rock already has a working solution although not remote.

bena let me know when you've got it together. Like the others here, I'm interested.

Not being technically inclined (in a DIY sense) there is probably more to it than I am aware of but the BeBob FOXI FF does a pretty fair job at both iris & focus. Rather than re-invent "the wheel" (pun intended) I wonder what it would take to engineer a wireless transmitter/receiver setup for the Foxi??? Think of the possibilities . . .

Maybe there's a couple of talented EE's out there that could whip it out in an afternoon?
