op - "I've just filmed the first scene of my new shortmovie and it's a desaster:"
Yes, You need a qualified DP, set designer, gaffer, camera operator, director. I see no knowledge, here, of any of these skills.
Suggestion: You obviously have the drive to produce. Go to school and gain...
I need to visually demonstrate, on video, the motion of airflow from a large ceiling fan. Use smoke, animation, a combination smoke and animation overlay? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken
Nice video on utube and thanks for clairfying your project. You might consider creating a green screen sweep to use inside the tank. Spray a large piece of cell stock with flat forest green paint and bow it to cover the bottom and back of the tank (or something like that) and evenly light it...
Your green bkgnd should be far behind the subject, so as to evenly light it and to not get accidental fish shadows, and in order to light the subject to match the desert lighting. Otherwise the only safe way to accomplish your goals would be to forget the green screen idea and animate the fish ...
Learn whar lighting instruments can do, experiment and watch what others do . . . and why. Study what lighting can do for mood, clariety, effects, but try not to be obvious.
Who is the character and why does the room white out when he enters? Is there a purpose for the white out or is it simply a gimmick thrown in to be "creative"?
A bit of insight might help in conjuring up an effects solution.
You've outlined an incredibly difficult project. Why?
I would think that if the finished scene is a dramatic action scene you should shoot it as such. . . don't complicate it by injecting greenscreen. Why?
If you don't have any clear natural water where you are then go to Florida, or...
IMO The advantage and reason for higher resolution(4K, 5K, 6K, etc.) is not necessarily for increased sharpness but for cleanliness of image. Makeup requires higher quality skills, for sure, but skin representation is but one of the areas for improved cleanliness. . . sets, props, lighting...
What cpc said.
Generally more than 90% of time spent on a feature is not in production. Don't spend money on hardware, use it instead to improving you knowledge. Rent what you need from the production budget when you need it. Don't burn up money setting it on a shelf. Only buy what will be used...
Why don't you put your background scene on V1, you greenscreen scene on V2, then repeat your greenscreen on V3 only this time fill the key with a panned soft focus shadow scene over your actor and adjust this key to taste. And if you really want to be cheesy (or campie) have its motion move...
One can't be half pregnant. It either works or it doesn't work. "A bit more convincing" doesn't get it. If it doesn't work re-shoot it the right way, (as above), or chuck the idea. Maybe get someone to shoot it who does knows how.
Good luck,
Ken
Don't over produce. We're trying to solve a highly technical problem here that is compounded by logistical restrictions placed on the project. The OP wants to create a visual effect in his playroom that requires highly specialized skills. Effective greenscreen production is taxing enough under...
I, too, agree with Barry. . . partially. Most people do over-light their keying backgrounds. We certainly presume that in this situation the OP has established a proper exposure for his greenscreen background and then recognized his spill problem. Also, I think that you will agree that most...
. . . "as well as lowering the light level on the greenscreen itself; the less light you blast at the screen, the less that can bounce back and spill all over your subject."
WRONG.
Your spill from the greenscreen is directly proportionate to its illumination. If you reduce the light level on...
