    The crazy price of storage!

AI data centers have taken all of the memory manufacturer's attention. Due to AI's needs for higher performance memory, it brings higher profits. So fabrication lines are being switched over to meet data center needs and profits. The lower availability of fabrication lines for consumer computer...

Does nobody really use DVXuser anymore?

Hello. The last time you posted was before I joined sixteen years ago. Nice to hear from you.

Very clever. Looking forward to seeing it.

Hello from France — emerging independent film producer

You may find the Production Diaries section of this forum useful. Of note, Charles Papert wrote up his experience with a short that had to be shot in what was it? 24 hours? It is an annual festival that has to be shot in the restaurant that hosts the festival...

Hello from France — emerging independent film producer

It shows two different styles and talents. Each producer/director has a way of working and capabilities. I produced/directed the first one. I plan everything in detail, work out shot lists, do scouting with the DP and gaffer. Another team did Just Right. It is a good comparison of talents and...

Hello from France — emerging independent film producer

There are a few experts here on making shorts. Hopefully, they will chime in. As to visual approach, it naturally depends on your goals, capabilities, budget, and available time. Of course, the setups are what take all the time. If you plan on a rich visual experience, than much time will be...

Hello from France — emerging independent film producer

Tell us about how your short development is going. Any issues finding crew or cast? Do you have locations? Did you pay for them? There is so much learned from the first short. It is a great experience. Good luck.

Here to Learn How Creators Think, Not Just How Cameras Work

Sorry Jay, I drift off topic. By the way, I think your first post is excellent. I would really enjoy a thread where people open up about creativity. It could go in many directions. Ok, let me restate, with a lavish bit of snarkyism not aimed at either of you; On properly managed sets, slates...

Here to Learn How Creators Think, Not Just How Cameras Work

Yet people hang onto it for some reason, just like slates. Both obsolete long ago. At least you can make some money renting slates. It's a silly, time-wasting prop.

working getting film, and to digital, with an Arriflex S35, say the 535

This conversation is too confusing for me. We were talking about film editing and then you mention the Ranger 8k. I'm done with this conversation.

working getting film, and to digital, with an Arriflex S35, say the 535

Yes, you need to get a positive printed for the editing. You need to have the keycode reprinted onto the positive print as edge numbers. The lab will do this. You also need the sound transferred to magnetic film stock. Will you use a Moviola or flatbed to edit?

working getting film, and to digital, with an Arriflex S35, say the 535

It's not clear to me what step B means. When you say "B) having possitve, to convert back to negative", I assume you mean to cut the negative to conform the the positive edit, not print a negative. I'm wondering as well. If your output is 4k, then why not scan the camera negative and edit...

Does nobody really use DVXuser anymore?

This is how the young people spend time with each other. It's a different world. They were waiting outside a restaurant for Sunday breakfast. I saw the same thing with a young couple having breakfast. They sat in silence, each looking at their phones. The Movie Wall-E may be more accurate than I...

Does nobody really use DVXuser anymore?

That is an interesting take on the situation. Not bad. Another aspect I perceive is the opposite of what you said about people posting bad information; people afraid to say anything at all. There is a filmmaker's Discord server here in the San Francisco Bay Area that was started up not long ago...

Does nobody really use DVXuser anymore?

Is it me or is discussion no longer a 'thing'. With most apps like Facebook, the serial stream of posts makes discussion on any particular topic difficult. It's a few responses to a question and onto the next thing. Even Discord channels, which do have a way to have separate topics, no one seems...

Is Neat Video worth the purchase price?

Waqas Qazi is the man. In this video he shows an example of adjusting an underexposed/grainy clip in Davinci Resolve with Davinci's noise reduction and then while still in Davinci, with the same clip, using Neat. Nice side-by-side comparison. You decide.

    Mic bumping sound

Here is a discussion about isolating dialog. It's not about Audition, but may offer some alternatives. In the 8th post, I put some samples of a track with a lot of traffic noise and how well Davinci Resolve cleaned it up. But that would cost you $300 to get the software...

How to add many clips to play at the same time in resolve

Come up with a quick test. Some way to duplicate the computing power needed without having to deal with 30 clips. For example, try it with one clip repeatedly used over and over to see how it behaves.

Dual channel wireless UHF audio systems - SONY, Deity, RODE...?

The Newshooter video from NAB with Rode discussing the Rodelink left me pretty impressed with the system. Given the price, it is a Theos competitor. If testing proves it out, I think it will far surpass Theos. It is specifically designed to be a camera-mounted system and not to be used in a bag...
