I bought one of the huge Kowa 2x projector lenses off eBay a long time and and have had it sitting on the shelf because it was pretty unusable for most shots. After reading about one guy who flipped the rear element of his Century Optics adapter around and getting much better results I figured...
I'm most of the way through creating a new utility that some of you might find useful. It will take DNG files and convert the clips to Cineform Raw without any of the command-line hassles or the use of the Go Pro Studio buggy GUI. I'd love to hear suggestions for me to add to it. Right now...
Can anyone answer why when I shoot through my massive Kowa anamorphic projection lens with my 50mm I have to stop the lens down to about f8 or greater for the image to not be smeary and in focus? I can shoot wide open on my 28mm. This is on a BMCC MFT. What are the physics at play that require...
I have a nearly-new Zacuto Z-Finder EVF I'd like to trade straight across for the Cineroid EVF4MSS of equal condition.
Of course, Z-Finger should read Z-Finder ;)
I'm selling a brand-new set of close-up Schneider Series 9 diopters, perfect for use on your anamorphic lenses. Included in the set are +1/2, +1, +2, and +3. These are fixed-field lenses that have never been used.

I just received a used ProAim MB600 off eBay and everything looks great, except the one filter I have so far, a Tiffen 4x4 ND .9 graduated filter won't fit in the holders. I measured the filter and it's exactly 4" x 4". The inside dimensions of the frame is slightly smaller than 4x4. Anyone else...
The lens has a permanently affixed MFT adapter on it (using adhesive) that is rock solid and strong. The glass is clean and sharp and the lens works fine. I'm selling it (or trading) because with my bad eyes I need to focus using my Zacuto EVF and I can't operate my GH2 in ETC mode while using...
So I'm trying out Amazon's Glacier service. You can store huge amounts of data in the cloud in a very durable multi-site archive for the low cost for a penny a Gig per month. My latest short film project is about 280G for all of the assets and I'm uploading it now. So for 2.80/mo I know my...
So I'm running into a problem. I have transcoded a fair amount of my MTS footage (GH2) to DNxHD. I find that when I render (in Premiere Pro CS6) that footage out regardless of target codec my super whites render with an odd blue and purple pixelation. So, the brightest portion of exterior sky...
You could create a spreadsheet in Google Docs. There are tons of web-based options and all depend on how much effort you want to put into it as well as effort to maintain and use a system. Sometimes the most elegant solutions are never used because they're just too complicated for day to day tasks.
Here's a question I assume is pretty basic, but I haven't been able to find a good answer to it anywhere.
When I'm using an effect on a layer that uses information from another layer (like a light wrap, etc) it seems the layer is accessed by the effect BEFORE transformations occur. For example...
Watched it last night in a great theater with digital projection. The cinematography was really distracting! Quite a few of the shots looked like they were shot on something low-end digital like a 5D. Several shots where they cut back and forth between actors looked like they were shot with very...
You'll find a lot of people that subscribe to the "shoot the film as much as possible in camera" and some won't even grade in post but try and make everything perfect on-set. To me that's a recipe for disaster and incredibly limiting. Of course, I only shoot narrative work and don't need fast...
So on my current project I have a bunch of scenes that take place outside right after a rainstorm and the road is clearly wet. I had to pick up a shot but as luck would have it, everything was bone dry. Anyone have thoughts on how to better match the bone-dry road with the rest of the sequence...
I just received the 14mm lens but realized my 58mm variable neutral density filter coupled with the 46-58mm adapter causes vignetting on the lens.
Am I correct in assuming a 46mm set of ND filters will work without vignette? Anyone using ND on their 14mm?
Spirit Squad is an ambitious feature film written and directed by Thom Rockwell and will be shot in Ogden, Utah.
The budget we're trying to raise is $50,000 to cover the normal items such as insurance, food, costume, props, location rentals, token payments to cast and crew, and some VFX work...
