I use a 2 TB Samsung and never had a problem. With the cost of SSD's and Cfast rising, it temping to go inexpensive, however if you are doing a piece of commercial or DOC work, I wouldn't try.
Most important thing said in this discussion. If you are not making a movie, but are a documentary film maker, use something like natural. You will be less engaged in technical and more engaged in telling the story, people being interviewed will be less nervous because you can basically point...
Now days almost every phone, every camera exceeds most folks needs. All the "experts" on youtube and the ads, well none really focuses (pardon the pun) on the storyline or how to get the best out of equipment. I recently started a couple of meetups. Many folks joined the camera, does any one...
The are a lot more "gear heads" than users/artists in video and still form. Also, many folks once the obtain a tool become an evangelist for that tool. The art in many things from music to imaging is neglected in many forms - take a look at DPR, yea he/she who bad talks a favorite brand. When it...
I have Gh6/G9II. On Gh6 I always use CFast for video. On G9II always fastest V cards. If you are not using external power always go with Pany batteries for serious stuff. I wish the G9II had Cfast slot, but I have shoe mount for external SSD. I just don't want to be 150 miles away, shooting...
If yours had good optics get it fixed. However, they are pretty reasonable on MPB right now (never had a problem with MPB). I normally use the 12-60 PL on my Gh6 and the PL 8-18 on the G9II both do well in color and sharpness for video.
Only rarely.
Watch this: . The streaking was limited to very unusal situations, and using Low ISO's or turning on Dr boost @ ISO 2000 made it a non-issue. How many people use those six lens LED's or didn't use DR boost at 2000 and above with backlighting? Not many real videographers. At the...
You are correct I should have said H265/Natural or ProRes/vLog as one you can use with out color correcting for nature images and the other means Vlog>705>color correction (for me one workflow is eaiser). If I Use H265/vLog then again its color correction and more time.
No. You can either choose the Pany baked in profiles or you can choose from various luts. After shooting about 10 hours of video (wildlife) over the last week, H265 5.8K seems to be the way I am leaning. You can of course still do tweeking on the color page, but Natural is so very close to real...
Thanks all for the answers. Doing some testing and still haven't made up my mind between H265 or Vlog. Adding a sub 1K small camera for the underwater stuff (cage), and currently outfitting the Crosstreak for overnight if I am out of hotel range. H265 is going to be easier and probably only...
Next year I'm going to be doing a 4-6 week documentary on landscapes/animals in the Amercian west. I don't see any use but for you tube and perhaps some stock sales. Right now I am planning on using my Gh6/G9II and PL: 8-18, 12-60, 100-400 and Oly 60mm (insects/arachnids/lizards). Processing...
I find that using the distance focus control, proper F stop, and my primary lenses (PL: 8-18,12-60, 100-400) that unless I am imaging really fast stuff (like birds, or sports) that I can rely on it for focus. Yes, the G9II for sports/wildlife (fast movers) seems a bit better, but just a bit...

In case you want to meet/collaborate/get motivated, I started a meetup group as all of the past video focused groups died slow, painful deaths due to lack of content, opportunities, and participation.
Here's the link in case you are interested
Trying to get the video forums on mu-43 more active (I believe it is the largest m43 user group on the net, I am just a member not the owner or mod). Even if you just cross post what you post here I think it would be a valuable contribution for those wanting to get into video. Thanks for reading.
Being retired but loving video, I have recently created a long arc documentary concept for a 501C3 organization. I am doing this Pro Bono using all of my own equipment, and have most of the releases I think I'll need. The subject is a Big Cat sanctuary and I might or might not be able to have a...
I want to maintain the highest quality and don't care about file size. Since the 4K is 100 mbps, should I keep it at that or lower it to say 75/80 mbps? Thanks.
I now use Sony and Panasonic codecs so not MOV oriented now. But how about the users that have the MOV output from their cameras? Perhaps Apple will allow some form of public domain of the format or allow folks like adobe to have a fix for the security issuses. Is this going to impact you?
