Client trying to save a few bucks, seeing if I can find someone to cover this and send me footage.
Basically replicate how I do their work - 4K 24p (me, NX1 + Nikkor, so comparable), separate audio with camera synch (me, DR-60D, AT hyper, camera out...
I really like the 672 for backlight/hair/cheekbones with the diffusion panel in place. I tried blackwrap to control the spill and just managed to overheat the panel.
This sort of look:
The 672 gives the highlights to the side of the face, at about 13% power. Anyway, ghetto'd this up in an...
Raise your hand if you're unimpressed with the LED panel softbox solutions. Oddball sizes, the fronts aren't recessed, not very big - like, who every reaches for a 24" square softbox?
Anyway, this is on a Aputure Lightstorm panel - I took the mounting part of a speedring (removed the...
EDIT: TYPO - they're $75, not $150...
We went through this a few years ago when a used light vendor was clearing out Enliten show pars - Source 4's converted to cold-start HMI (or HID I guess?) Several of us picked up on those. Biggest issue is the available globes - 85-ish CRI, available in...
It's pretty DIY, but I found a 150w Osram GX9 globe with great daylight rendering, which works with a $45 ballast available on Amazon. Modded one of those 3" theatrical fresnels (like an Altman 100 or a times square, $30 eBay). Cold-start but the size means it cools in a couple minutes. Fixture...
I'm doubting it's worth the extra $$ as far as bounce goes - I think a big green wall will reflect about the same whether it's flat paint, muslin or commando.
Plus you'll need to get those yards sewn together, without wrinkles - (I usually find some lady that does drapes and curtains, handling...
A napped fabric like that may prevent a bit of spill - but in reality, I'd guess you won't see much difference from muslin. And man, that's pricey at $20 a yard.
I've done a lot of keys, and my favorite thing is a wall painted with flat paint. No messing with wrinkles if the wall is prepped...
Sorry, just noticed this -
No pics, and I have the smallest-cheapest rock-n-roller, and I don't have the tabletop thing for it.
But basically, I have an amazing view-camera case that I found for a steal and it's configured to hold my camera, on rails, with the matte box. Pull it out and stick...
Alzo sold some spirals they claimed are very high CRI, I think they're still on their site.
I'd just do it "fairly right", bite the bullet, and get a couple dual biax units (chinese kino knockoffs). They're really pretty cheap and can be used for many things.
You don't need perfect CRI for a...
I could see these being insanely handy for the price - 48" T8 LED tubes, 5000k… 8 bucks a tube. Ballasts are cheap too. Available in color temps starting at 3500k.
1350 Lumens, so three of these would equal one 55w Biax tube. Not a ton of light but for hidden fill on a set, etc...
CRI is 83 so...
1x2, the others are listed with the big one at 5000 watts equiv.:
High light output - equivalent to a 1000w tungsten soft light - 2900 lux/269 FC at 4ft [.8m] - with broad light dispersion/coverage
With fresnels, it's very difficult to fill an entire panel - say a 4x4 - with light vs. having a little spot on it. (And I love fresnels, I own about nine from 2" to 8" lenses - those tiny antique 2" fresnels are wicked). Since most panels are rectangular, the rectangular lights are the easiest...
Another shoot with the exhibition-style par - just barely fought the texas sun through a window. Really need a 1.2 one of these days… and yes, that's her skin tone, got a great match.
Just wondering how many of you guys are using AE strictly for animated projects - I know it's discussed primarily as a post-tool here, but with the popularity of explainer videos, more and more of my billing is straight-up animation vs. footage with post work.
These were rough client...
Check this out - when scouting locations where you'll be augmenting practical fixtures with your own lights, here's a way to get close with gel combos to save some time on set.
Check out the Lee mired shift calculator at this link. Yeah, I know some people hear "mired shift" and start thinking...
I rely on the histogram and decent monitor accuracy for exposure and have never blown a shot - for me the #1 feature is blue-only so you can setup the screen properly. Two of my cameras don't generate bars, but I check the screen at my NLE regularly and it's very stable.
Especially since going...
Ghetto lighting day this week:
400 Mogul HID starlite key; Aputure LED from the side… DIY 150 HID 3" fresnel on the wall w/gel:
575 HID Exhibition Par + 1/4 CTO just barely fights the daylight window (through a popup diffuser)… Aputure on the hair. (Yep, that is about her exact skin tone).
I have a 12 x 20 screen; generally I've done a diffused dual biax flo on each side, and more on the ceiling pipe grid (maybe every 3 feet or so).
I even bought an 18' long DJ truss for spaces with no grid. This is also handy for backlighting the talent for separation.
Before I had a lot of...
