Yep - that seems like the perfect lens for this form of camera?

That could possibly be fun to use.

Z280 ticks all the boxes for me except HFR; a great replacement for my EX1r. Why no 120 HD HFR? Seems odd to leave it out when lessor cameras have it.

Any info on the max data rate in 4k/24?, I assume it's probably the same as the Z100 about 225mbs

I'm not Doug, but based on the pics, the grip does not rotate.

With its excellent 4K internal codec, I wonder if the Z280 will pass muster with Netflix as an approved production camera? Maybe for documentaries or as a B-cam.

Also, I still have some leftover SxS cards from my PMW-300 days. Will 4K recording require a newer SxS card?

At last something to replace the PXW-Z100. I have a FDRAX1( that's broken !!! ) and have been waiting for a replacement. Sort of gave up and bought a GH5 and GH5S. Still have a NX5U and the PXW-Z190 may be a good replacement. Though for me an upgraded NX with the main PXW-Z190 features would be ideal. Stay with L series batteries etc. Do not need broadcast features. A NX5R with the guts of the PXW-Z190 is about it !!! Maybe in the future !!!

Sony Specs for the camera are located here: https://pro.sony/ue_US/products/hand...rders/pxw-z280

including xdcard run times which use the 128gb cards.

I was thinking about the 'joy' in these cameras. While sorting out some kit.

Wireless headphones. Is this so hard?

Where are sony bringing any fun to these cameras?

              So dull.

Nope, you're not getting that. But I find the design of the grip to be more comfortable than the EX1.

Pretty darn close... but agree with Sam on the lens - I wish it were a bit wider. Price announced today??
Also, curious Doug, any reason they went with SxS instead of XQD dual slots?

You can get a 0.8x WA adapters that will hold focus throughout the zoom range and give you roughly a 24mm FF WA FOV. They are not cheap ($500+), but very handy to have.

                    PXW-190 price is $4,000 and the PXW-Z280 is $7,000.

So, I keep reading that this camera will also use SD cards, but I don't see dual sdcard slots. Will it take sd cards with the use of an adapter like the EX1r? The xdcam cards are on the expensive side when you head up into the 128gb and higher range.

There is an SD card hole right rear ?

Yes, I saw the single sd card slot, but figured it was for firmware upgrades and camera setting backups. Sony has no info in the specs on that slot that I saw.

That slot is like the one on my FDR-AX1 and is likely for firmware updates or to save presets etc I expect.

Which camera are you asking about?

The Z190 has dual SD card slots for recording video files, plus a third SD slot at the rear for a utility card that can be used for storing scene files, all files, user menu files, etc. -- plus record video proxy files.

The Z280 has dual SxS card slots for recording video files, plus an SD slot at the rear for a utility card that can be used for storing scene files, all files, user menu files, etc. -- plus record video proxy files. The Z280 can also use XQD cards in an adapter with any of the camera's recording formats (including 4K @ 60 fps) as long as the XQD card is rated for that bit rate. The same thing can be said about the SxS cards -- the card must be rated for the selected format. So old and slow SxS cards are not going to be allow 40K @ 60 fps. The Z280 can also use SD cards in an adapter, but not for any 4K formats. HD only.

Sony seem a bit lost on the sxs vs xqd?

I get that some prod cos might want to milk life from thier sxs stock but is there further reason for this?
