So I went ahead and ordered the Blackmagic recorder last night and it will arrive tomorrow.

I think you'll like it, lots of features & the GUI is the best (per usual with BM).

        I think you are correct.

Anyone want to buy a Odyssey 7Q+ with the RAW bundle? I think the broken SDI connector could be soldered back on pretty easily . . . for someone who has those skills.

There's a trick to still use the Odyssey in this situation if you're shooting HD. The Odyssey needs a signal in either SDI A or HDMI to function. So if your SDI A is broken the HDMI input should still work. But here's the trick: most people don't know that in HD the Odyssey is a two-channel recorder! You can send in a signal to HDMI and to SDI B. The Odyssey will automatically detect this and switch to dual-recording mode. You can set the monitoring to just show you the SDI B signal, and then when offloading the drives you can select to only transfer the Track B clips. Your record time is cut in half because you're filling up half the card with a video track you're not going to use, but it will work. If your camera has both HDMI & SDI outputs then this is pretty seamless and I like it for having the HDMI signal with all of the info display out of the camera while the SDI is clean.

Just one of the many powerful little features of the Odyssey7Q+ that no one ever matched.

Mitch, thanks for the tips. I will give them a try the next time I pull the Odyssey out. For now, the new Blackmagic recorder is working out great. I love the smaller, lighter size, plus having connectors at the sides instead of the bottom. I haven't yet decided whether to get the Odyssey repaired or not.

The 7Q and 7Q+ used Samsung Super AMOLED screen. I found upgraded Super AMOLED + screen also fits, but the corners of the 7q case need to be filed slightly, see photo.

I did decide to get mine fixed by CD. Almost like brand new now. But I don't need it anymore, so if someone wants a good deal on a 7Q+ that was just serviced, let me know.

7Q uses the front assembly of the Toshiba Excite 7.7. Ever wonder why that little dot is in the corner? It's the camera hole for the tablet. Also see the SmallHD OLED for the exact same panel. What does this mean? 7Q replacement screens can be found for around $20 if you are willing to take the tablet apart. Photo above is of upgraded AMOLED Plus screen I found from Samsung which also works. Focus is easier to see close up on the plus screen.
