    FS700 with 18-200. No focusing

    Hello,

I was offered Sony FS700 with 4K upgrade for $750. It comes with 18-200 SEL (non PZ), but the focusing doesn’t work, both manual and auto. What is the probability that it’s the camera’s fault and not the lens? I don’t care for the lens, I need the camera. But if the camera is defective, I wouldn’t buy it.

    Thank you.

"but the focusing doesn’t work, both MANUAL and auto" umm... can't you just bring a lens with you when you go to pick it up...

      I don't have a lens.

This points to the issue being with the lens, but to make sure, why not grab the cheapest E mount lens you can find (you can get something for less than $100) to take along and test. At worst you'll have spent a hundred bucks but saved $750 (if the issue is with the camera), at best you have a fantastic bargain ($750 is a great price for the FS700) and a lens you can either keep or resell.

I'd just add that (having owned one myself) the AF of the FS700 is barely usable - I sometimes used it to grab initial focus quickly, then turned it off. If you're going to be using manual focus on mechanical lenses you won't have an issue even if it is the camera causing the 18-200's focus-by-wire not to function.
