I read a lot about people trying to adapt a painters pole for audio, but what about for portable boom light? I see this setup on pro sets a lot. How do I convert that funky plastic threading into a 5/8 stud?

My plan is the chimera lantern. If I used a cardellini it'd make the 5/8 stud be at a 90 angle, I guess that would work. I dont have a cardellini though I have a pile of mafer clamps. I guess I should experiment. What I was hoping for was some adapter or something.Formerly user 'shawneous'.

The cartellini is kind of heavy to hang under all that leverage (in my opinion)... since we're just talking about a painter's pole then drill that bee-otch up man! Drill RIGHT THROUGH that plastic end and stick a 5/8 rod in there. Then screw it in place from the side.
Any DIY guy should keep a few feet of solid aluminum rod laying around for this type of thing... it's cheap and easy. If you want to drill/grind/cut in a capture groove/hole in the DIY stud it only takes about 1 minute tops.
Am I giving you a clear picture of how to do this?
If you don't like this idea then get a 3/8" threaded stud (about 2" long)... drill the end of the pole out the same way, but drill it at 5/16" and then screw the 3/8" stud straight down into the plastic hole... it will be tight, but it works well. Then just take a brass manfrotto bit (the 5/8" short stud that's tapped for 3/8") and screw it on. Done!LIGHTING and SOUND AVAILABLE FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD OR ON DVD
