    Light Stand Issues. Help?

Alrighty. So I'm in a bit of a bind. I just ordered a few stands and lights for our mini studio at work. I thought that I did my research, but as it turns out, I ran into a couple problems and I need a little help. I ran into two problems.

1 - We have 2, 1k softlites with a 5/8" stud mount. We want to mount these on 2 Avenger 604 stands that have 28mm female tops (although it says 35mm in the description, the opening is actually 28mm). After looking for adapters and spigots, I want to make sure that I'm ordering the right stuff. Would anyone know if this might work?

2 - We have a Manfrotto 3385 Boom Assembly for another light. This thing has a pivoting clamp with 19, 20, 25 and 28mm slots. The C-stand we have for this is an Avenger A218S (more product details) with a 5/8" male stud. For this issue, I'm pretty clueless as I don't know whether to look for a new pivoting clamp or find an adapter for that 5/8" stud (if one even exists).

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

As to your first question, yes, that adaptor should work just fine... I'll research the next now...

Do you have a similar product link that describes what your clamp looks like? If your boom has a pin that is supposed to insert into something, could you not just get the grip arm and knuckle for the C-Stand, take the arm out, and insert the pin into the C-Stand knuckle? Anyhow, if you post again with new info, I'll try to help you figure this out.

Hey - thanks for the help so far. I'm using the swivel grip/clamp that was included with the boom. Here's the product info for the Boom (and clamp).

The boom doesn't have a pin. The swivel ability for the boom relies on the pivoting clamp that it came with. It's that clamp that doesn't quite have a slot small enough for the pin on the c-stand. My curiosity would be if getting an adapter for the pin, or replacing the pin, would be sturdier than getting a new pivoting clamp, or if it wouldn't matter either way?

Thanks again for the help so far!

This may be more money than you want to spend, but couldn't the gobo head for a c-stand hold the boom, and you could just forget about the clamp that comes with it? I would imagine that this would be the sturdiest and least jerry rigged way of fixing your problem. That pole looks like it would fit into a c-stand knuckle just fine.

No prob. Remind your boss that getting the gobo head and grip arm would be a solid investment anyway. If you're not going to buy that stuff, why even bother buying a c-stand? Keep truckin'.
