    in-car lighting...?

I have to light a scene thats inside a car at nighttime, while the car is moving...long story, but the director wants them to be driving.

but I'm wondering how to light it well with out having any external power to plug lights in.
I remember watching some behind the scenes on the film "Collateral" where they used what looked like sticky rectangles and squares that were lights...all on the dashboard to act as key and "eye lights" for the actors.

any idea what those (or something like them) are?

I guess my long winded question is, are there any lights that use battery power that I can have inside the moving car? And if so, what may they be called so that I can look into renting some.

    thanks

Those light pads are Rosco Lites.

As far as other options you're probably looking into LED panels that can be powered by a battery pack or the cigarette plug. LitePanel makes those and Cool Light has a lower cost option for about $500.

rosco lites are far to expensive, you can DIY it with a bunch of LED's and some simple wiring. Or you can get an led worklight that plugs into your AC adapter

        There's also the mini-flo from Kinoflo. http://www.kinoflo.com/12VDC%20Syste...o/Mini-Flo.htm
I haven't used it and I think it's really expensive (just like litepanels leds) but you could always rent them for a day or two, that shouldn't be too expensive (in my area I can rent the mini-flo kit with two lamps for 60 Euro for three days)

I use 4 of those elcheapo LED UFO lights from ebay. They cost me a $1.50 each and work great. They are not balanced by any means, which requires some extra work in post, but they work okay if your budget is tiny.

I would suggest the Comer CM1800 LED lights as it has a dimmer switch and 4500K and 3200K balance. With the dimmer switch, it makes such big difference in adjusting to the amount of intensity and tone that you want.

The tricky part is you have to find a way to mount it. It fits any standard accessory shoes. But it also has a standard tripod thread hole you can mount on anything that mount the camera too.

You can read more about the Comer lights here
