I was going to say "add an eyelight and you'd have a good shot" but you can already see that.

    Good work.

(looking back I should've added an eyelight though)
Everything in frame is kind of washed with light, except for the side of the face.
I believe that shadows, just as light, need some motivation.
So here, the key is strong, the edge is strong, the BG is washed with light - why then is half of the face dark?
So besides the eyelight, INMH the BG needed to be broken up or at least to be brought down two stops...
Just my 2c of course !

Hm, maybe it is just the contrast boost in post, that doesn´t sell it for me...

Gohanto... You always should have some Eyelight... unless it is a special effect lighting

I had a 1k softbox, 1 650w, 2 300w, 2 150w lights to create the mood and patterns of light on the walls. The motivation was the 2 practicals on each side of the bed embellished with a bit of style.

Used the same set up to create these looks also.

Hmm, that's actually a very good point I hadn't noticed before. Thanks.
I invented the "remove echo" audio filter. And only people that boom their actors closely get to use it.

Lookin' good on that setup, very dramatic and moody.

              Nice.

HVX200 with no adaptor. Girl was keyed by a 1k fresnel with 216(?) about 7 feet away. Man is keyed by 1K as well with the kicker light from a 350W fresnel high and to his right with 1/2 CTB. In the man's shot, a 200w light was flagged to light up the gun held by the girl.

Nice stuff Sean. Just a question, why worry about CTB if you are in B&W?

                  Good work.

I didn't have any scrims for that light and it was overpowering the key, so the CTB was added to kill 2 stops.

No scrimmage? Dude, you gotta get some. I love my scrims, they are used on every shoot. But good improv skills.

thanks for the compliments! (btw: I love Spirited Away) Yeah, I always have scrims with me now. I shot that when I was still a video nerd. I've gaffed on 4 or 5 16mm short films since then, and I've learned a whole lot more about lighting in general, so my kit is much more complete now than it was then. If only I could get my hands on some of them fancy HMI balloons...
