    Nightclub lighting...

Over the weekend I had a shoot in a nightclub/lounge where they held a Comedy Show. This club is not set up with a stage with spot lighting or anything like that. They kept the lights up somewhat. It was not all the way dark or all the way lit. Somewhere in the middle is where they left them. All the lights were up in the ceiling shooting down at the floor. I should add that this lounge is small. There was really no room for me to set up my own lights because there was people everywhere. Besides they club owners wanted to keep the lights somewhat dimmed just for that added low key, intimacy setting you would find at other comedy shows.

The only thing I had to work with besides the dimmed house lights was my Super Bright VidLed on camera light. I did use some diffusion so it wouldnt be to bright on the comedians, I had the dimmer turned all the way up on the light too. That and raising the gain on the camera made it ok. I would have rather not used the gain though.

So what are my options? I am thinking if I do this shoot again, I could mount a 250 watt diffused Lowel Pro light on this support beam pole in the middle of the room that would face the comedians. I could also put a dimmer on it so it would be to bright but bright enough to where I would not have to gain up on the camera.

You can see what it looked like at the links below. I posted excerpts from the show on my myspace page.
