This is much the same everywhere as The Authorities in every country are trying to get to grips with Drones. Not aircraft and not quite the same as RC airplanes (most of which don't have live video systems).
I work on several committees and generally the best ones are the ones that meet behind closed doors. What happens in committee stays in committee. It lets the members have a bun fight and it not be in public. These tend to be the most productive and get the best results in the longer term.
Incidentally the fact that DJI is Chinese is a red herring. They represent the largest manufacture of Drones used in the US. They need to be onside with any regulations after all The Authorities will want the Drones to confer to the new laws. And the new laws have to be implementable in the (new) drones. Maybe retro-fitted? You can't do that without working with the major supplier.
The same pattern is happening in most countries of the world where there are a significant number of drones.
