Youtube converts legal range video to full range?

I just rendered a video to legal range (16-235) and uploaded it to youtube, but it looks like it converted it back to full range! Is there any way to avoid this?
I know vimeo keeps the proper range settings, but it appears youtube does not...

I assumed this is the only relevant forum area to post this.

This is really annoying. I think youtube just adds contrast. I adjusted my video and re-rendered the video in normal full scaled range, and it still looks way too contrasty. Is there ANY way around this crap?

That's strange- I've found that Youtube modifies gamma too, but find myself adding contrast and reducing brightness (about 5% each) to compensate
