Anyone know? As I said elswhere, of course you get less functionality in a 'lite' version and there are less modules in the Express version. But I cannot understand why the most imortant module should be crippled in this way. Surely this cuts out many potential customers.

Re: Why is 16:9 crippled in DV Rack Express?
This was simply a marketing decision. Nearly all the Field Monitor options were removed in the Express version. In fact the only one that remains is Zebra, and it's fixed at 100IRE rather allowing you to adjust the threshold. While you consider Monitor Aspect Ratio the one feature we should have left in, others might pick various different features. If we conceded on each of these points, then Express would be too close to the full version.
Incidentally, when we decided what to keep in Express, we considered the DVR the most valuable component. The Field Monitor is certainly essential, but we figured that people would be buying it for the direct-to-disk recording capability, not the Field Monitor. We actually considered another lite version with a fuller function monitor and the two video scopes but without the DVR. The market for that seemed much more limited than what we settled on for Express.
All explanations aside, I will raise your comment with the bosses here.Mark Mapes

Re: Why is 16:9 crippled in DV Rack Express?
Thanks for your reply, Mark - much appreciated. It may be that the 16:9 issue is more pertinent over here in UK where widescreen dilivery is more widespread. The other factor is, of course, that as a DVX user, without 16:9 display with anamorphic or squeeze, any way of getting true aspect in the field or studio would be great. For me the bottom line is that I cannot justify the expense of the full version with the way I work, but I would be a customer for the Express if it had 16:9. I wonder how may more there in the same boat.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time ...
