    Car Stereo Effects... Anyone?

This question doesn't pertain to AVID specifically, but that's what I'm working with...

I need to make a song sound like it is playing through the car stereo, rather than simply laid over. And in another scene, I need the song to play through a boom-box.

I have no idea where to begin. Thanks for your suggestions...

ZNL - Do you want a tinny sound, or a boomy one? If you want a tinny, small speaker sound, then using an equalizer, cut off the bass frequencies. For the boomy sound turn up the bass frequencies. Also, lower the gain on the track. Just making the volume lower might work.

Also, if you have a DVX why not play the song on an actual car radio (via tape or cd) and record the sound live?

I can vouch for that method. I did a similar thing when I needed to achive the sound sound of music coming from inside a building. I played the required track through some large speakers, with the bass turned up and treble right down, and recorded it directly into the camera. It sounded more realistic than I managed to achieve with audio editing software alone.
I need to do something similar to get the sound of a portable radio. I'm planning to do this by making up the soundtrack, then playing it on some really cheap and nasty computer speakers. With a bit of trial and error, and some adjustment of the graphhic equalizer in windows media player, this should hopefully sound convincing when recorded into the camera.
