How to only edit with Audio 1 + 2 ?

I have some 720p 24 footage that I have imported into an Avid project.
The audio was recorded on the second channel.

When I drag the clip from the composer window I get all 4 tracks of audio.
There is faint audio on tracks 3 and 4 I do not want to mix with
    the good stuff on 2.

Is there any way to lose tracks 3+4?
(Other than deleting each one from the timeline?)

Load the clip in your source monitor. Then on the timeline you should have two rows that say V1, A1, A2, etc. The row on the left if your source, the row on the right is the timeline. Deselect the tracks you don't want from the left column (in this case A3 and A4) and then edit the footage into your timeline. This should keep A3 and A4 from coming into the timeline.

Right - I do that and every time I load a new clip into the window:
the A3 and A4 icons re-highlight in the Timeline Row

That is true. I thought your question was just how to avoid them getting to the timeline during editing. Sorry for the confusion. I don't know how to remove those tracks permanently from the source files. I still work in a tape-based workflow so in my situation I'd just not capture A3 and A4. For file-based workflows I'm not sure. Maybe someone else will chime in.

          use a 'Rush-sequence':

-throw all your rushes into the ( empty) timeline. This will create a long sequence with all your individual shots.

-( optional): delete all the rush master clips from the bin( delete master clips, NOT media files). This will clean up the bin, but will not delete your media. You access your rushes from the rush sequence. This is scary the first time.

-drag&drop the rush sequence to the SOURCE monitor. Create a new sequence. This will be your edited piece.

If you now deselect A3 and A4 on the left hand side ( source-side), it will remain deselected. The added bonus is that it is much nicer to shuttle through 30 minutes of rushes in one long view, than it is to click on dozens of individual clips.

            Highlight all your master clips.
Select "modify" from the clip menu
            Select "tracks" and change from A1 A2 A3 A4 to only A1 and A2

Mhh, that's a new one for me. Live and learn...

But according to the help, it only works for film projects, and it has to unlink the media.

You can unlink to modify tracks, then relink. I need to check on the film project limitation, I don't think that is true, but then again I only work in film projects.
