Feature Documentary Post - Work Flow

Im about to get onboard as an Editor for a Feature Documantary

Currently the Master is in DigiBeta and was able to transfer a Copy(including TC)

on a MiniDV since im cutting this at home.. and ofcourse i dont own a DigiBeta Deck

anyweys.. i have a lot of Clips to take out from the Master Copy, basically its already

done, it just needs to be re-edit for some particular reason.

so here is my work flow and please advise if you have a better one.

    DigiBeta -> MiniDV ->Import to Avid ->

    Edit Edit Edit Edit

Export EDL -> (what sort of Export Properties?)

Bring to Studio for DigiBate Dub ->(Hoping no Losses on Compression)

Open a Bottle of Cold Beer.

    please give me your inputs

I'm assuming that the studio you're taking this to is Avid based. In which case you can alter your EDL step to just brining the project file that you've been working with. The online editor can take your project and recapture from the Digibeta masters to conform everything to the higher resolution. Then output the edited Digibeta master.

Project file? and just relink the media from the DigiBeta? now why did i NOT thought about that!

it soulds like a better plan for me!!

now my worries is that.. most of the Avid Post house in SF is running on Media Composer. is there any conflict in project files between Xpress Pro HD and MC?

i think thats a better work flow in All!! angles..

Thanks a lot.. let me sniff that alley.....

No compatability issues between Xpress Pro projects and MC projects. That's part of what makes Avid great.

I would just add that it might make sense to run off a 'viewing copy' of your edit just make sure, and in case you used some effects that they don't have at the post house - so they can have a look and recreate them with what they DO have.
